Hi MFP pals! I'm looking to add a few buddies on runkeeper.com and dailymile.com to share exercise efforts. Would love it if you added me as a friend. Here are my profiles:

http://runkeeper.com/user/polarcubby/profile
Or you can just add me on this site!
I'm always happy to motivate or give any advice I can.
Thanks,
Julie

I've added you both in Runkeeper
Here's me if anyone else wants more in their street team : http://runkeeper.com/user/ElBandito/profile0 -

I am new to runkeeper - or more for me - walk keeper but I really love the tools on that site.
I should let it run for a couple of hours while I'm out geocaching one time and get runkeeper credit for geocaching. I was also going to try it out for a bike ride one of these days too as I branch out more and sort of lean in to this more active lifestyle I've taken up this year.0 -
Awesome! Keep the invites coming guys!0

I'd love to have more friends, especially from here, so add me if you want0 -
How does dailymile compare to runkeeper? Do you do both for everything or each for certain things they are better at?
Are friends the same as street team?0 -

Hi polarcubby
I have never heard of 'runkeeper'. Is this mainly an American site or can anyone in the world join in? I am going to check it out now but if I can't join up, I will be on here to spur you on (and vice versa!!).
N.B. Just checked it out. Unfortunately I jog on a treadmill because without having to actually jump into my car and drive a good distance away just so I can have a jog, it is the only way I can do it. Ha ha, I won't clock up too many miles jogging on the same spot, hey??
cheers

You can add activities manually that you do on the treadmill and it counts the miles. I can't run outside during the fall/winter very often so I go to the gym, but I still use runkeeper to keep track of my miles.0 -
Thanks for the invite I'm actually on week three & I use http://www.runningahead.com/ under username henelyj. I will be willing to post on here though in regards to progress. Week 1 & 2 went well. I'll have to see how this week goes. I've been trying to walk on my days off and that hasn't been going so good The weather is cooling off for one & I am a night nurse at the hospital. So I may have to start trying to use the treadmill at work (we are allowed if no one else needs it). Anyways, thanks again & I wish you all well as we proceed in our weight loss journey's.0

I like dailymile a little better. It seems simpler and more user friendly. I believe friends are similar to street team in Runkeeper. Dailymile has a great and active forum and the site attracts a lot of walkers and cyclists (at least more than Runkeeper). You can participate in challenges or create some yourself (like a group).
Mostly I prefer dailymile because I use Walkmeter to track my walks and runs and it posts to the site easily.0 -
Oh I didn't realize dailymile was connected to Walkmeter. I have that app and think it is way easier to use than the runkeeper app. In fact the first time I used runkeeper it deleted my data before I had a chance to use it and the Walkmeter one still has my test walk in it, safe and sound, so as far as the apps go, I prefer Walkmeter as well.
I really like the runkeeper site, but if the Walkmeter/Dailymile combination works better I guess I will probably think about switching... I wouldn't want runkeeper deleting another one of my walks, that's for sure. It's very easy to input with the map tool though, so IDK I'll have to mess with them both a bit more I guess.
One question I have is today - I did six walks in six areas around town, but I didn't walk between them, I rode my scooter... does either site or app have any way of logging that into one effort or one map or one day's activity?0 -
OK my account at dailymile is
Deedee
and it's all set up in Walkmeter
and OMG we can have encouragement texts automatically read out loud to us during our activities? MAJORLY COOL!0 -

If you use walkmeter and just press stop between walks in the end it'll count a bunch of your little walks as one. It will not post to dailymile until you press done. (not sure if it helps)0 -
That helps a heap, thanks Julie. I will give it a try next week when I'm geocaching for sure.
Also I added you to my dailymile, so next time you're out let me know so I can practice sending encouragement texts that get read out loud to you as you're walking, can't wait to play with all the features and learn them, very cool. Just NO RESPONDING until AFTER!! hehe
Anyone else, add me if you want to geek out with me while you're working on your activities. I think it will be way cool to hear encouragements while underway - I can't imagine not going that extra mile with that kind of support, just awesome.

DeedeeVI on both sites (VI stands for Vancouver Island) I'm also DeedeeVI at geocaching.com which is a fun way to get out and do some hiking, so anyone who wants to give that a try, hook up there too if you want!0
