Hey ladies. What are your reviews on Luna bars? I picked up a few from Trader Joes today.. the white choc. macadamia. A few of my friends eat this for a snack but is this... good or bad for you? I love snack bars on the go but definitely do not want to be eating a bar that isn't good for me. So just wanted a few reviews! Thanks :)

  • I eat them as a quick way to get protein. I don't see anything wrong with them. I don't really understand the question, honestly. You have all the nutritional information and the ingredients, so I think you have this info already. No offense, of course. What exactly are you asking?

Just like all other granola bars, they're fine in moderation! I used to use them as my snacks, or even desserts.

Health wise, I'm sure I could "spend" my calories on better food. That being said, they are a nice treat for me, they're kinda candy barish, and I feel like I'm getting something junky and fun. I really, REALLY, like the new chocolate covered coconut one!

I use to eat this before as a quick pre-workout...loved this one the white choc. macadamia...especially and the lemon bar as well...I don't think there's any problem with it.. if your asking if its an empty calorie concern..no, it has its nutrients..it really helped me prior to a workout.. and sometimes even a post workout snack as well...

I like the Clif bars as well!!
  • I suppose it really depends on what you want out of them. If you are truly thinking a light snack the luna bar might not be the best option, depending on your calorie goal for the day that may be almost 1/4 of your daily allotment. Maybe a FiberOne bar or the Cascadian Farm granola bars. There are all around 150 calories with about 5g of protein. I generally eat one of these on my way home before doing my workout. Sometimes I add a banana. If you are looking for something to replace a muffin from your local coffee shop the luna bar is probably a better option.

I prefer the Luna Protein bars. They're under 200 calories and they taste just like candy bars. The cookie dough are my favorite. They're a great way to get a high protein snack and they're a great substitute for candy. They're full of vitamins and minerals. They're really no different than a protein shake.

Luna bars aren't 1/4 of anyone's daily calorie allotment, they're under 200 calories.

I don't think they're bad for you. Of course, it's always better to eat something you've prepared yourself than out of a package. I commute to school and I've also got pretty severe food intolerances so I have to bring my lunch with me. Bars are about the easiest thing to bring. I can't have Luna bars but I eat Lara bars all the time. They're so simple, just nuts, dates, and sometimes chocolate or other types of fruit in them. Can't get more simple than that...so I usually go with those.

I am a fan. I have such a sweet tooth and in the past have had issues with binging late at night. The Luna bars are low glycemic and do not seem to cause me to crave more, that is a huge accomplishment. I save enough calories to eat one every night along with a glass of milk. I rarely use them as a meal replacement. Once or twice when it would have meant not eating at all I have had them for a meal.
So far so good. I am continuing to lose weight, have not binged and when I have a craving for something sweet I know I can hold off because I have a treat to look forward to.
My favorite flavors are Peppermint, Caramel Nut Brownie and Lemon Zest.

Most Luna Bars have 180 calories, some 190. Anyone who is eating 720 calories a day has bigger problems than Luna Bars.

    ::sigh::

no single food is good or bad in the context of a varied diet that is mostly whole foods or minimally processed. what makes a food good or bad?

Funny.. I just picked one up to try today! They looked healthy enough. My other favorite is Tiger's Milk Protien bars. They are a little highre in calories but I really have gotten the benefit from them as a post-workout snack!

A *slightly* lower calorie option is the Cliff Z Bars, they're aimed at kids. They are about 130 calories. I like the chocolate brownie one the best.

I have to eat a bar for lunch 2 days/week and I used to eat Luna Bars. They would keep me decently full (I leave at 9:30 and don't get home until 4 so I'd have to eat one while walking between classes) but they would sometimes give me stomach troubles so I started eating Clif Mojo bars instead, which don't upset my stomach as much. I really like the Peppermint Stick and Cookies n Cream flavors, though I found the Blueberry Crisp one disappointing.

I like eating these as well as Clif bars sometimes on the go or as a snack/mini meal. My favorite flavor currently is the chocolate dipped coconut (that one is amazing and a good candy bar substitute to me). I also like the chocolate peppermint stick, Caramel Nut Brownie, White Chocolate Macademia, and Iced Oatmeal Raisin a lot.

I LOVE the Luna Chocolate Peppermint Stick. It's the closest I can come to a Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie. I eat it as a treat, the same way I used to eat cookies or a candy bar. I don't eat it every day, maybe once or twice a week. It's a satisfying afternoon tea, dunked in herbal peppermint tea! Haven't tried any of the other flavors.

Just had the cookie dough. It was pretty good like eating a candy bar.
  • I prefer Lara bars myself! To me they are like candy. And also the Clif kids bars.

How are they "for women"? Do they have some kind of special nutrients only females can metabolise? Or are they simply just packaged in colours that a marketing team determined would be attractive to women? I've never actually seen these before, it's an honest question.
  • Iced oatmeal raisin..Peanut butter cookie..nuf said.
