I have a lot of flexability overall, but my hips are really tight and i'm not sure that i'm doing everything i can to get my flexability back. I stretch alot at the gym and use a foam roller for soft tissue work but i just don't seem to be making progress, i know that a steady pace wins the race but i could use some help if anybody has any suggestions

Lunges while holding on to light weights work and standing on a step or something elevated and stretch to touch toes (holding on to weights)and trying to stretch beyond your toes. There's a kid that has just the tightest hips I know and that's what the trainer told him. He's to do it twice a day. Hope that helps!!0

Have you tried doing basic Hatha yoga? Hatha yoga is a gentle form of yoga that focusing on deep stretching and basic balance. It has been excellent in improving my flexibility, and a lot of the regular poses focus on hips and back flexibility.
Here are some links to my favorite free flexibility work-out videos:

"Classical Stretch" does wonders for stretching, unlocking, and balancing the hips. Look for the dvd for High Performance Athletes. You will feel a difference as long as you keep it up a few times per week.
Yoga is good; most of my workouts is some form of yoga or another. But Classical Stretch targets a few areas that yoga can miss.0 -
