Water, Water Everywhere!!

I'm a little concerned. I know water is great for my system and I really believe it has aided my weight loss thus far. But I'm also aware that you can die from too much water, but how much is too much? :drinker:
On Friday last week I was in a water challenge and I am so competitive that I was determined to win. 22 cups of water later and I was actually pooing water in the evening. This was like when you take that stuff to clear you out before a colonoscopy - not pleasant!
So, who knows how much in a day is too much? :drinker:

That's too much.
Drink to hydrate. Drink enough that your urine is almost clear. Don't do water challenges to try to win something. You can cause serious damage or death this way. I hate seeing the water challenges around MFP. Drink your 8 or so cups and leave it alone.0 -
You won't do that again.:laugh:0

I have so much admiration for a friend that is prepared to be THIS honest. Big respect to you girl (chortle)0

That depends. The problem with "too much water" comes from usually all at once. I've had over the course of a day that much from work, exercise, etc - I wouldn't sit and drink 22 cups of water in an hour, no.
But spread out over the course of a day, it's fine. You'll just pee a lot0 -

Tell that to the lady who died after a radio challenge to see who could drink the most water a few years back.0 -
That is way too much water. It is called water intoxication. I remember a story about a radio station that had a water-drinking competition and the winner died! Check out this link:

22 glasses appears to be too much...0 -
Just be careful about how much water you drink. A few years ago someone died drinking water in a contest to win a Wii Nintendo.
Pooping water must have felt.. umm interesting!?0 -
I bet you win a crate a day of natural spring water,,,that be such a bummer,, but you could always share with Slinky, I am sure she would be only tooooooo happy to help her dear friend0

I think it all depends on how much you drink in one go and what your activity levels are.
If you drink way over 4litres a day and aren't replacing your bodies essential salts then you can run the risk of doing yourself damage, but as with everything, it all depends on the person.
It is interesting to see everyone's opinions though and that is very sad, someone died trying to win a wii!!

Everything I have read about this is in line with what you are saying. Even the links that are posted in this thread say it's not the amount of water, but how fast you drink it. So I don't think there is some magic number of liters that becomes dangerous. It's a matter of slamming your body with lots of water quickly (essentially drowning) - you know, like someone might do in a contest or something.I think it all depends on how much you drink in one go and what your activity levels are.

Thank you. Like I said, spread out through the day with high levels of activity, etc.
