Yes. That is the basics of weight loss. Calorie deficit! Doesn't matter what you eat.

Absolutely, if your at a calorie deficit and under your maintenance. No way your going to gain weight, cause your not even consuming enough calories to hit maintenance.

By eating "whatever you want" your macro-nutrients will be completely out of wack. You won't be consuming the proper amount of macros, even though your calorie consumption is still under maintenance. You still lose weight, but not absorbing the proper amount of macros. You'll be lacking proteins, or having too much carbs, or too much fat, etc.

Yes essentially you can continue to lose weight, if you stay under your maintenance calories. But you won't be consuming the proper amount of macros per day.

Bro I know I keep quoting you but people need to read this ^^

    To add:

Calories determine scale weight. Not HEALTH, not how you FEEL, SCALE WEIGHT. Above post is very accurate.

Macros will effect body composition within that scale weight, as will training procedure.

It'll work out a lot better if most of the food is good for you.

Seeing that you only have a few pounds left until your goal weight, I'm going to have to say that at this point in your weight loss journey, what you eat DOES matter. I'm down to losing my last 7-10 pounds, and saw no progress for quite a few months until I started really seriously watching my macro-nutrients...I had to cut carbs by quite a bit and up my protein, and since I've done that, I've started losing again.
If you had a lot of weight to lose, the calorie deficit is most important, not necessarily what you eat. But you're pretty close to being at your healthy goal weight, and if you're not having any luck by just eating whatever you want, it might be time to start choosing more carefully.
Also, you're my height and age with roughly the same amount left to lose! Good luck!!
  • Yeah, I mean I mostly stick to eating healthy foods and the right ratios of macronutrients but I feel absolutely horrible whenever I have a slice of pizza when I'm out with my friends, or when I'm at the dining hall and really want chicken tenders. This happens maybe once a week.. and other than that I usually eat pretty healthy. So you think I can maintain my weight loss and still have a healthy body composition if I continue on the way I am?

Thank you! Yeah we're basically at the same stats right now and the same height, it always means a lot when someone with similar stats to mine gives me advice, it seems like it'll work better because you're like me lol

Today I ate a crap ton of candy and still made it under my calorie goal. I'm steadily losing weight, but I noticed a downspike in my energy level for the day. I had to make it up with an energy drink. I probably could've eaten something with nutrients and protein and pushed myself harder.

So yes, you can eat whatever you want, BUT you will notice a difference in energy/mood/health.

eating stuff like that once a week is fine, trust me. i don't eat perfect every single day & i've lost 8 lbs so far in a small amount of time. it's your reward for doing good the rest of the week. =) just try to eat it in moderation when you do have it!
