Net vs Gross calories

my daily calorie limit is 1400 to lose 1 lb a week, and today I've eaten 1379 gross, but only 990 net since I exercised.
Should I be above 1200 NET calories? Or am I ok because I ate more than 1200 gross

NET 1200... the "net" is what your body is working off of, and your body needs at least 1200 calories to function...0

My understanding is you should never be below 1200 net.0

I don't think I can lose weight eating 1200 net calories a day. It seems I need to stay around 1000 to lose any weight. I am a female, 5'5" and 65 yrs old - low to moderate exercise. Are there others out there really able to eat 1200 net calories each day and lose? I mean lose at least 1 pound a week?0

Your body doesn't need 1200 calories per day to function. Your body needs what it needs. It is individual for everyone and I highly recommend doing your own research (pubmed.com, etc) on this to find what's true for -you-. Many reputable docs have recommend <1000 calories for certain dieters. There are lots of interesting studies out there re: low cal and extended life span (not just because of lower weight, but because of how the body works that way). Definitely dig in there and research for yourself!0
