If you had all day to yourself... (i.e. NO WORK)

I happen to be one of those unfortunate souls who is without a job... and with all the time in the world on my hands. I try to use it to study (I have classes) and to work out, read about fitness, etc. But I realize I'm not hitting it hard and am kind of boring.

So, If you had all day and were laid off with a 1 yr severance package (woohoo).

What would you do with it? Fitness wise? Nutritionally? For fun?

  • Train for a marathon or triathlon, experiment with new foods and recipes, find an unemployed fitness friend to make it more interesting.

Anything and everything that tickled my fancy :) I would definitely focus on weight loss, because I need it!

I don't work at the moment either, because I graduated two months ago, am still without a job. I live with my boyfriend who is way too generous and pays the rent and part of my food, so I don't feel all that motivated to send applications, although I know how very important it is that I do.

Having all the time in the world makes me incredibly lazy. I try to read, do some self-study on things I'm interested in, but bottom-line is, in stressful times I eat much better and I am much more motivated to work out, because workouts then become much needed anti-stres me-time. Now, I can't even make myself leave the house anymore. I'm glad I at least pop in a workout video on those days. I have even gained some of the weight back I lost during the final weeks of my master's degree.

But, one good thing that I'm doing: I'm trying out new recipes, I bake healthy snacks, e.g. Jillian Michaels whole-grain sugar-free muffins and brownies, and I get enough sleep. (more than enough, actually). So maybe expanding your food horizon would be something for you, if you're into cooking at all?

Also, when I can find the motivation, I go to fitness classes at the gym that I didn't have time for previously, because they are around those times I used to have classes at.

And, because I have all the time in the world and the weather is nice, I walk instead of taking the bus as I used to do.

Try everything I've wanted to try and hadn't had time to before. I'm working part-time now after working full-time since the age of eighteen. I am using this opportunity to learn to swim, do zumba, ride my bike as much as possible, learn about kayaking, learn racquetball.... This opportunity doesn't come around very often.
    Have fun!

Ride, workout, take care of my family. same thing I do now but instead of working, I would be looking for work and/or training for another job

work out, walk my dogs every day, read, and waste too much time on TV, facebook, MFP threads. do a 5K.

    That's how I spent 2009. :ohwell:

I'd work out like crazy. Hit the gym, bike, swim run.
    Do a triathlon.
Then I'd work on my business plan.

I would sit down with a gallon of water, and an adult diaper on, and play video games all day. Water so i dont eat, and diaper so i dont have to get up.

Learn new stuff! I work for myself, so I usually have a day or two during the week that is slow (or dead). Along with working out and reading fitness stuff, I'm learning guitar and Portuguese and do some painting if I have time to make the mess. Also, Youtube has so many instructional videos from how to play instruments to how to do certain hairstyles :) its fun to roam around online sometimes looking at interesting articles, too!

Treat sending job apps out like it is a job in and of itself. Set an alarm, get dressed, get crackalackin'. Volunteer or intern to pad your resume and references if you can't find something that pays.

But I would also take some advantage of extra time. Split one big workout into two smaller workouts to maximize post workout burn. Take a couple cool classes if you can afford it.

Fun ideas... I will have to put myself on a schedule of some sort and hop to some concrete goals soon.....
