ok so i am doing so well, already lost 5 lbs. thanksgiving is coming up and my aunt is ordering from cracker barrel. i know it will be hard to find something to eat. anyone who has ordered thanksgiving from there, what is to avoid and what is good to eat?
i know i could give myself one day to get off track but the problem is for me once i do one day bad, i am bad the rest of the week. want to be good!
i could also not eat much that morning but my fear is i will be starving and eat everything in sight when the meal comes if i do that so i'm thinking i'll do a normal breakfast and a salad for lunch.
any advice? i wish i had some control over the menu. she is not letting us do anything or bring anything. and it woudl be weird to not eat.

maybe avoid the stuffing and breads... stick with turkey, vegetables, salad? mashed potatoes can be ok if you don't put tons of butter or gravy on them.0

Have you checked to see if their nutritional info is online? Maybe make a list of what is "safe" to eat.
If not, and you aren't ready to take a "day off" for eating what you want, just bring something anyway, even though she said not to. I'm sure she will understand that you're trying to eat healthier and lose weight.0 -
Aha - an aunt who is bucking the trend, refuses to spend countless days/hours in the kitchen for people to over eat and have tummy aches!!!! One Christmas I was that daughter-in-law, I ordered in Christmas dinner!!!!! My mother-in-law never let me live that one down, lol!!
It is one day out of the year, try and shake that feeling of being "bad" and continuing. Have a good healthy breakfast, try and fit some exercise in before the feast (a brisk walk?), and then go and enjoy the company of your dear aunt and everyone you will be with!
Happy Thanksgiving :-)0 -
Turkey dinner is NOT BAD FOR YOU. There are components that you should either 1)avoid, or 2) take small portions of, but if you continue down this road of things being off limits, you will likely bing at some point. Want mashed potatoes? EAT THEM - in moderation! There are no off limits foods, you just have to control your portions....0

^ This. Maybe a little slice of bread or 1 roll with no butter.0 -
I would just bring what I wanted. What's she going to do? Kick you out? Then again, most of our holidays end up on a door slamming fight anyway, so, I'm coming from the "screw em" perspective.0

I usually go for strict attention to portion control. The pumpkin pie minus the crust is fine for me. Turkey, veggies and fill up the rest of my plate with a green salad. Portion control...that way I do not feel like I am being punished. Stick with water to drink and chew your calories instead of drinking them. The key for me is having a full plate which I manage with the salad.0

I agree with the poster on portions. That is this countries #1 problem. We eat too much of everything. Take small servings and enjoy a little of each item that you like and don't have seconds. Eat a decent meal, in good proportions and enjoy the day. Relax and be with family. Oh and ask if you can bring a veggie tray for "snacking". Most of the time these types of orders are just the basics: turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, bread and maybe green beans casserole, pies etc.
If you are worried about the rest of the week, don't be....you won't have left overs and Thanksgiving is Thursday. Workout an extra 30 min on Friday. Instead of hitting the malls where all there is to eat is fast food, shop online.
We shouldn't look at the holidays as guilt filled extreme eating challenges. This is life, enjoy it, embrace it and have day with family. Don't know what the weather is where you are at, but a game of touch football out of doors couldn't hurt everyone either.0 -
i think the reality is that a lot of us are going to be over that day. the best you can do is continue to do your workout and enjoy your time. small portions, more veggies, less bread/carbs is the way to go, it sounds.0
