Some time I guess about a month ago I just ran on empty and have been ever since. I was doing pretty good and then just stopped caring. I got way off my diet and started eating whatever I wanted. If I wanted an oreo, I had one. If I wanted Mexican food, I ate it. If I wanted cake at work, I had 2 slices. I just don't care anymore. I'm not depressed and I'm no way near the weight where I shouldn't be caring anymore. I'm just not sure what to do. Maybe my thyroid is out of whack again. Maybe in my mind I'm just tired of struggling to take off a pound. I don't know. Any words of wisdom?

It sounds like you need to develop a fitness plan and stick to it. Set MFP to "lose 1 lb. a week" and go for it!

The days you exercise, you'll probably be able to eat the oreo or the mexican food.

And always take 1 day off a week from the diet so you have something to look forward to.
  • you are worth it...get out there & do it for yourself...you will feel much better once you get started ;)....good luck my friend

No words of wisdom...just support. Been there, done that, and doing it again. This is my third restart. I truly think a lot of people are in your same boat. This SUCKS! Just step back and breathe. When you are ready, jump back in.

Oh, if I only had a nickel for every time I had this happen - I could afford lipo! But for real, it happens to a lot of people.

I suggest sitting down and making a list of why you want to lose the weight. Every time you think of saying "F it, I'm gonna eat this because I want it" remember why you want to lose the weight. If we could eat whatever we wanted with no consequences we wouldn’t be on this site.

Good luck, do it for you!!!

I know that you have to want this for yourself, but let's do a reality check. You're pre-diabetic. You have children.

I suffered as I watched my own mother suffer from an amputation, the healing, the kidney shutdown, the congestive heart failure. You don't want that, if you can avoid it. This is not about vanity, this is about the quality of your life, and let me tell you, the time is now. Love yourself enough to take care of yourself. Spare your children some suffering, too.

Well, maybe you shouldn't look at this as a DIET, you should look at it as a life change...I just found this quote and post it, so here you go I hope this helps!!!

    Don't Quit

When you've eaten too much and you can't write it down,
And you feel like the biggest failure in town.
When you want to give up just because you gave in,
and forget all about being healthy and thin.
So What! You went over your points a bit,
It's your next move that counts...So don't you quit!
It's a moment of truth, it's an attitude change.
It's learning the skills to get back in your range.
It's telling yourself, "You've done great up till now.
You can take on this challenge and beat it somehow."
It's part of your journey toward reaching your goal.
You're still gonna make it, just stay in control.
To stumble and fall is not a disgrace,
If you summon the will to get back in the race.
But, often the struggler's, when loosing their grip,
Just throw in the towel and continue to slip.
And learn too late when the damage is done,
that the race wasn't over...they still could have won.
Lifestyle change can be awkward and slow,
but facing each challenge will help you grow.
Success is failure turned inside out,
the silver tint in a cloud of doubt.
When you're pushing to the brink, just refuse to submit,
If you bite it, you write it....But don't you quit!

I feel for you. I just came out of a funk like that myself. Why try, it really doesn't matter, etc. But I hate the way I look and feel. So I searched and found a goal. I'm doing the C25K and pretty excited about it. Check it out. If it's not the thing for you, look around and see if you can find a challenge that does fit you. Good luck and I hope you regain your motivation. Couldn't hurt to have your thyroid checked out. Could be hormones, too.
  • I am so with you. Tried WW and lost 7 pounds, then summer happend. Weekend barbeques, lots of drinks, now i am obsessed with baking and cooking. I lost my job and I am in such a funk, also need some encouragement to get back in control.
  • When we dont care about ourselves we are in denial of what is going on at a deeper level! That is for you to work out for yourself.

I was in the same position as you - i didnt give a **** and then i realised why i was keeping the weight on, it was a very emotional time for me.

Another eye opener for me was that my dad and grandfather both have diabetes and if i am not careful i could get it too.

Caring about yourself is a a great gift to give yourself - dont deny yourself of that.

I have read on other post that some folks here give themselves a cheat day now and again to keep from getting burned out. This info is coming from folks who have done this a long time and lost a lot of weight. Maybe you could try something like this to get back on track. You can search cheat day and find some of the post. Most say they enter the food they eat of a cheat day so they can still see what they are doing. Good Luck - Hope you find something that works.

How strict was your diet that you were on? Were you feeling deprived? I know that i have seen people fall off of their plan when they had too many rules set up. I know it's different for everyone but for me I need to have flexibility in my eating. I knew that if I had a plan like that it would work and thankfully it did :) Best of luck to you - you can do it girl!!!!
  • Just smiling at all of the kind support...This is such a great place..:)
