I have completed 3 half marathons, just walked my last half on sunday, october is perfect weather or so i think for doing a full
we would have a full year to train
TRAIN For a FULL or a HALF!!!
you need not actually do the full, happy to have people who are atleast willing to train
i plan on training for the full under armour marathon in Baltimore, will be happy to start a google spreadsheet to keep track of our training
i walk, i walk slowly, to me finishing is the reward, the training that gets me fitter, i am not competing with anyone but me
please join me, we can do this!
I will try to keep you motivated and on track!

I didn't know you could walk a marathon...is it all walking? or jogging intervals? interesting...
I have to build myself up for a 1/2 first...I just did my first 5k on Saturday, and seeing all those people finish the 1/2 inspired me to possibly move on to 10Ks and 1/2s...0 -
I may be interested. Are you looking for people in your area or in general? are you training to walk the distance? I'm trying to get a better idea of your plan.0

Oh, what the heck ... I'll give it a try. Sure, I'll be in your little motivating competition for a full marathon next fall.
Any newbies out there .... can't say enough about the Chicago Marathon. It's AMAZING (and flat!).0 -

No you need not stay near me, we can just log our miles on a common spreadsheet

You can definitely walk a half, I walked all three of mine,
first one took 3 hours 58 minutes
second one took 3 hours 30 minutes
third one 3 hours 24 minutes(no training, yikes)
to give you an idea, when i started i took about 23 minutes to complete a mile, now i can easily do a 17 minute mile, at race time i have done as fast as under 14 minutes.
i don't know your fitness level, or your age, i am 42, i would not go from 5 k to a full, do a few half's then attempt a full.
i am not sure if i will actually do the full, but want to train for it.
if my body can take it, i will do it, there is no rush, it's a journey for me0 -
Here is the link to the google spreadsheet, will edit the very first post to include the link as well

You do what ever you need to do to cross the finish line. I've done 35+ half marathons and one full marathon. Never once did I run a whole event. My times for half marathons range from 2:16 (flat, easy course on cool morning in PA) to 4:30 (GOD awful freaking mountain with rocks, boulders, stumps and logs to climb over in NM).
I have a couple rules for my half marathons:
1. Enjoy them!
2. Take water from the youngest volunteer at the water stations. Sometimes I make the adult give the kid the glass just so I can take the drink from him/her.
Sometimes I train. Sometimes I don't for half marathons. Training is a good idea, though! Full marathons are a different story. It's like having a part time job. You have to train. 26.2 miles is more than twice as difficult as 2 - 13.1 miles. I've done many back to back halves (half on Saturday then drive/fly to a different state for a half on Sunday). That still doesn't compare to the energy it takes to do a full marathon in one day.
If I can do it ....... anyone can! True story.0 -
Ok, I'm thinking it's time for another full marathon.
I've got my eye on two options:
Labor Day weekend - Tupelo Marathon and 14.2 Miler in Tupelo, MS
Fall Break weekend - Hoover Dam Marathon, HM and 10K in Boulder City, NV
Please add me to the spreadsheet and put me down for 3 miles today.
Thanks for organizing this and getting us motivated!!0 -
Wow, 33 impressed
so i am worried that doing a full may hurt me, hence the training
how long did it take you to recover from the full?
did you get sick, any knee or ankle problems that propped up?
I have added you to the spreadsheet, and logged your 3 miles, from now on just click on the link and add your miles
I love the half's!0 -
Please add my 2.09 from today to the spreadsheet.0

I heard from a few of you that you cannot edit the spreadsheet, please let me know if that is still the case.
Sincerely,
