the way your body digests food

Hello everyone!
My sister-in-law was told by her doctor to see a nutritionist because the reason she wasn't loosing weight was because she wasn't eating the right foods at the right time so to speak. The doctor told her that the way your body digests certain foods means you should eat somethings at a certain time and other at a different time. Can anyone shed some light on this? I've tried googling it and haven't found anything helpful. I've never really heard anything like this.

Her doctor is an idiot.0 -
Her doctor is not a food scientist.0

Are you sure he recommended the nutritionist for weight loss and not for some other reason (vitamin deficiency, anemia, etc)? I have not heard of eating things at certain times for weight loss, but there are foods that help or hinder each other as far as nutrient absorption goes.0

Yeah, doctors are stupid. They don't know shi*t about the human body. You should recommend to her to google it or go to wikipedia instead.0

Lol they don't know a *kitten* ton about nutrition. Thats what nutritionists/dietitians are for0 -
perhaps they were referring to the time it takes the body to break down, process and digest different macros? Protein for example takes the longest which is why it keeps you feeling full for longer.

I am hugely wary of any advice that says time of day we eat has anything to do with how much weight we lose. I just think it majorly overcomplicates things. I would follow the doctors instructions which were see a nutritionist. He didn't actually tell her when to eat what. There's a reason he recommended a specialist in the area.0

I would agree with doctors being stupid, i went to see one for help because i was having chest pains who then proceeded to tell me off for eating a salad for lunch and completely ignored my chest pain complaint.0

*headdesk*.....to docs advice, not you OP.0

Yeah, this is what I was thinking too. Perhaps the doctor is not ignorant or an idiot. Perhaps s/he just knows this person's body and medical history and is giving advice tailored to that.0 -

I'm about 99.999999999999% that he/she was using sarcasm...0 -
Some doctors are incredible idiots. In March, I went to a doctor for severe coughing (including coughing up blood), mild fever, and body aches. He told me it was just in my head and suggested counseling. 24 hours later I was in the hospital for viral bronchitis with a secondary bacterial infection in my lungs at the same time. I was in the hospital for 4 days.
Tell your friend to find another doctor.0 -
Hehe...what do you call the guy who graduates from Med School at the very bottom of his class??
Doctor!
(Sorry, OP...I just couldn't resist!)0 -
