you can take an online test to see if it's depression. If it is, exercise is the best natural way to fight it off. when ever I feel like that, I know I have to go for a walk or get on the treadmill right away. it always makes me feel better even if I'm feeling lazy or achey.

Can it be tied to diet?: it could
    Can exercise help?: almost always
Could it be something else?: it could be physical, mental, emotional

Best first step: talk to your doctor. If it's a physical problem you don't want to wait while you experiment with diet and exercise. S/he will be able to help you diagnose the root cause.

I've heard these same symptoms tied to multiple root causes. Regardless of rather or not someone else is having the same experiences, it might be for a different reason.

I agree with the other post...exercise creates endorphins in your body...endorphins make you feel better and are created not only from exercise but from mental stimulation when you know you have done something good for yourself. Try doing something, anything, good for you when you are feeling like that. It may take some pushing, but make yourself do it and you will see the difference.

    Good Luck!

I agree with Dave - true depression doesn't really have "to be about" anything. It's a chemical imbalance in your body that needs to be corrected. Sometimes this can be a lifestyle change, counseling, and/or medication. Could be caused by a vitamin deficiency also. There could be underlying medical conditions also. Please see a Doc and take care of yourself! :flowerforyou:

i agree with everything everyone is saying here....

do you take time for yourself? exercising and eating right are absolutely wonderful for depression, but how about a massage? or some time meditating? ever had your hubby watch the kids for an hour so you can take a nice bath with a lavender cache while you read a good book? there's also lots of teas out there that can help alleviate your mood, like yerba mate....you sound like you are blessed and you are aware of it, which is great! sometimes there is that void that people don't understand how to feel...i often get anxious if i dont always have something to do, but you sound really busy already!

i'd talk to a good doctor to see if it's an underlying issue fo sho....but dont forget to take some much needed time for yourself....deepak chopra has some really wonderful books out there, maybe you should pick one up?

i went through some severe depression during the winter of 2007/2008...all i can say is yoga saved my life...i didnl;t even realize i was depressed until after the fact, and thankfully i never needed to take medication for it....

i hope you find what is best for you...drop me a line if you ever need to vent/chat/whatnot...

    we're here for you! :flowerforyou:

I think it might just be that time of year. I've been the same way lately. Just so down and really nothing to be down about. I always have this overwelming feeling that I've completely forgot to do something or did something really bad that I should feel sorry about, or like I just lost my best friend. I've been feeling so bad that at night I've been feeling so much anxiety, that it's hard for me to go to sleep.

Yes! There are a lot of things that can contribute to depression. Unexplained depression can be a sign of a chemical imbalance. I'd definitely go see a doctor and get some bloodwork done. A few years ago I had a very serious B12 deficiency (apparently, I stopped absorbing it after my stomach surgeries) and along with tingling arms and legs I had a lot of anxiety and severe depression. Some B12 shots helped a lot with that, but now I need them at least monthly forever. No biggie.

Exercise and a balanced diet are important for overall physical and mental health, but I would definitely find a doctor your comfortable with and have this checked out. Just remember that you are the customer, and you should not agree to a treatment that makes you uncomfortable. Always shop around until you find someone who you are comfortable with and *listens* to you.

I have a history of depression and nothing has kept my mood in check like regular exercise.

If you think there might be some stress pulling you down, you might try a bit of thai chi or yoga a few days out of the week to help find more balance.
