Eat after workouts?

I am new to all of this and could use some input. I don't want to eat the calories I burn working out. So, I tend to work out between meals so that when I finish, if I am hungry, I will just eat my next scheduled meal. What do YOU do?

I should add that right now I am doing 30 min bike rides every other day and a long walk on Saturdays.

The best thing to do is to eat something with lots of protein as soon as you finish an intense workout. It will make you feel like a reborn and your muscles will be happy and strengthen. You can plan your meal however you like, it's just better to plan one after the gym. It can be a protein shake/bar.

I just eat when I'm hungry.. Pre workout post workout doesn't make a difference I can see... Point is burning off the calories not when you burn them off...

I go to the gym between breakfast and lunch. I always come home starving and ready for lunch.

i exercise after dinner (usually by dinner I dont have any calories left) and then have a snack (with the extra calories provided by exercise) if I feel hungry. I will have a handfull of peanuts, special k snack protein bar or any fruit.
  • Since I mostly do strength training, I follow a diet where the bulk of my eating is done after (and in coordination with) the time that I work out. About 60% of my daily calorie intake is within 30 minutes after working out; then again, I'm trying to gain muscle. Up until after I work out (1-5 PM) I am fasting.

I don't eat anything before or immediately after a workout. I do 30 minutes of personal training 3 days a week at noon, and I still don't eat anything right after or before. I don't want to waste the calories. I do however have lunch within an hour or so of working out.

I eat most but not always all of my exercise cals. I eat breakfast and then about an hour before the gym I have a snack. Gym 12-1 and then lunch when I get home. I've noticed that eating lunch first is too much but if I skip that snack I can't make it through my class. You've just got to do what works for you!
  • I do a lot of martial arts and we do some pretty strenuous work outs and I always feel like I need something afterwords to stop shaking and replace some of the sodium etc that I lose in my work out. I often use New Whey protein shots. You can get them at your local supplement stores. The whole shot has 45g of protein in each so you only need to use half at a time but they help me recover really well and best of all help kill the post work-out munchies.
