Hi all,

I am on Lovan "Fluoxetine" for depression and mood, etc (they stop me being a complete a__ __le) and will occasionally rely on Temazepam to get back to sleep or make it come on easier.

My mind is one often really busy so sometimes I now recognise and release the busy brain.

Something frequent for me is waking after 1-2 hours sleep (includes REM prior to waking). This is not doing me good as it zaps concentration and focus throughout the day. After waking, trying straight away may lead to a long 'trying to get back to sleep' period.

Thoughts on this ? More particular others who have suffered and now over sleeping issue.

BTW I used to snore a lot but this is now cut back a lot thanks to released kgs.

I was put on antidepressants a few years ago due to severe insomnia, and it caused a horrifying weight gain. I went off the meds, and found that diet and exercise helped some, but not nearly enough. What has made the difference for me is calcium! When I don't get enough, I don't sleep. I have started taking supplements because I just could not manage to get much through my diet, and now I am sleeping 6-7 hour stretches each night.

Maybe that will help you a bit. I hope so.

    Have u tried melatonin?

Also, log off your computer well before going to bed. Dont watch tv in bed. Try reading a book with a lamp.

Also fresh air and exercise during the day or early evening helps.

Ps...magnesium is supposed to help as well. A naturopath doc prescribed this for me and really helped slow down my mind before bed.

i too have a lot of sleeping problem. i try to explain to my husband i have to put myself in the mode to be able to even lay down to sleep. my brain goes everywhere. the way i get myself to turn my head off and go to sleep without any sleep aides is i think of a story, maybe a book im reading or making one up- but i have to focus on details such as what the "people" are wearing to the house they live in etc. i also continuously wake up during the night and my head is really spinning and i have to repeat the process. so far this method does work for me- even though i dont sleep for extended periods of time usually- im lucky to get 6 hours of sleep a night. i also have a similar problem with waking up during rem very frustrating and i havent found a method to relieve it. but sometimes your mind can be your best advocate without the use of drugs. i been on so many medications over the years for my depression and the symptoms associated with schizo affective disorder -- best of luck to you hun- i know first hand how difficult sleep disorders are.

For me, even reading a book, interferes with my sleep pattern. So I listen to an audio book. I have an iPod, I put my book on, set the timer for 20 minutes, and go to sleep. I love being read to, LOL.

When I went on the road with my husband a few years back, I knew my sleeping pattern would be disrupted horribly, and was having the same thing as you with waking up, so I invested in a sleep mask. It worked! When I would get to that point and wake up, the mask was on it was dark, I went back to sleep. I guess I trained myself that when I came up into that light sleep, to keep myself there instead of waking up fully.

Oh, and I'm on anti-depressants also. The #1 thing, though is talk to your doc about this, he/she may want to tweak your meds a little. I know it can be frustrating at times, but you are your best advocate when it comes to your health, don't be afraid to speak up for yourself.

Ditto on the Melatonin and Magnesium -- I take both and seem to be sleeping better.
It also helps to make the room completely black -- towel over the digital alarm clock/phone/cell etc... tv off
Dr Oz. says to get a mask with ice packs for your eyes but I haven't tried that yet ---

Thanks for all that information. I will definitely see the Doc before adjusting any meds.

Supplements are definitely something to look into me thinks.

Thanks for cheering me on ! Yay !
