Indeed...summer is leaving me and its that time of year where winter is dragging me and im scratching and kicking and not giving into this cold that easily.............. Thus, I have a yearly case of the winter blues in the beginning of this most dreadful weather. Aside from the obvious my most Excellent tan goes idle for months as here in Chicago the sun now will become scarce for the time being..........Sun how I miss you.
I do play my video games, imbibe booze and go to the gym to fight this sadness..................but tell me what gets you through????

Aside form the holidays.....Winter sucks! :ohwell:

Get a set of snowshoes! It's great exercise and a lot of fun to walk on top the snow!

(I actually love the cold and snow - no bugs, less sweating... plus there's ice skating, snowshoeing, skiing!)
  • video games, the gym, and hot chocolate for me! xD

I hate the cold too. I get sick soo much. Its been cold here for a week and im sure i already have the flu -.-

bump...I could use some pointers too!
  • I watch my favorite movies in the winter after cooking my favorite meals. But sadly, it's still summer in Texas for now, so I don't have an excuse to not go outside!
  • my recommendation is to do like the above poster suggested and get yourself interested in a winter sport/activity. That way snow won't always seem to be the enemy.

    Good luck.

Am i the only person who actually prefers winter?

Chilly nights, wrap up warm, go have snowball fights, walk the dog in the snow, the crunch under your feet... :D

Compared to hot, sticky, humid, sweating, wasp-filled days in summer :(

Always sunny in Arizona :glasses: Love it here.

Was a total slave to seasonal affective disorder when I lived in the arctic cold of Ohio. I'm the same strange self all year round here in Arizona

REALLY???? You need get out of this mindset. This is complete mentaltardation of your bain by setting the expectation.

Prepare yourself by getting some home gym stuff. Learn some meditation teqniques. Throw a party. Do anything but THINK about how negative it will impact you

I get some cold weather running gear, lace up and get my butt out there and run anyway.
No excuses, just do it! Embrace the weather... find just one thing positive about it. GO do!

    I'm in Buffalo. 'Nuf said.

That being said, winter is a whole other ball of wax, since the cold is horrible for my joints. It's excruciatingly painful from November to May (we still had ice in early June) so I try to soak in warm baths as much as possible and stay indoors. I try to beat the blues by working, cleaning up, keeping busy, etc... But there are others who love skiing, etc. I think to each their own.

I moved here from Florida. I love the 4 seasons, but it's a bit harder now. It's very pretty, though, when the sun's out or when you see deer in the snow, so I remember pictures like that = peaceful = and that gets me through the dark blizzard-like days in between

I went running yesterday morning in 40* temps and I LOVED IT! Compared to the 107* I ran in in July I will take it, lol. I love winter. I dont know how I will still be able to exercise outside when the snow hits, but I will jump off that bridge when I get to it. I wish skiing wasn't so expensive...

You find the answer, you let me know.

I always feel so guilty for sitting inside and putting around the house in the winter but i'm not going to go freeze my *kitten* off just so i can be outside lol.

Positive thinking is always good but seasonal affective disorder is real and it is a chemical imbalance. Its like telling a diabetic to think positive and your blood sugar will remain level.

I hate winter. The moment the blues skies yielded to grey and the temperatures dropped below 40, I immediately sensed a mood change. I started getting depressed and craving sweets. Couple that with an ailing Dad and teenager problems and you've got ZERO MOTIVATION. I haven't even bothered to log my food the last couple of days. I just needed to talk. Thanks for listening.

I freakin' love winter...and my drugs...and my vodka. Wait what?

For real though, I like staying indoors and drinking tea and knitting. Hibernation/practicing for when I become an old woman :)

I've heard that vitamin D helps but I've never tried it. I just sleep more and do everything else I normally would.

    Winter is my favourite season.
Admittedly in Britain we don't get much summer, but I prefer the cold, dark mornings and nights, warm indoors, wrapping up, woolly hats and gloves, scarves, hot chocolate, rosy cheeks.

I come up with various indoor cardio innovations that make Winter unique and interesting while I continue my progress.
It could be depressing as hell . I can't get out and swim, jog, play tennis, hike, walk or bike - too cold!

    That's miserable!
So, my solution is to integrate my old boxing training into modern aerobic dance and call it "interval" training.
I jump rope between dance steps as well as sparing, hitting the bag, jumping jacks, squat thrusts and some other things that are fun, and when Spring arrives, I am just getting weary of this and ready to get out.

    LOVE IT!

    ...oh, wait, you said "wine"...
