I'm in my first year of grad school and decided to live on campus! what a bad idea! food that isn't prepared by me and all you can eat!?! it's not helping my weight problem!
I've always been bigger and tried several times to get it under control, but now I'm at the heaviest I've ever been and I don't want to go through life like this and end up with numerous health problems! I'm looking for some ideas if anyone has them on ways for me to cut back the cals! Obviously portion control will have to come from within but maybe having a little support will help!
I'm a great motivator for others in my life so it's time to focus on me! Friend me and I'll be sure to motivate you if you help me out too!
thanks for the help guys!

Fellow grad student here. My first two years of grad school made me INCREDIBLY unhappy and unhealthy. Tips I have:
Do you have access to the gym on campus? I would recommend making time to go. The work will always be there when you get back. I learned this late (now) in my graduate student career. Going to the gym will make you more energetic, your mind sharper, and even lose weight
If you have problems with the cafeteria, a suggestion I gave my students who live on campus (taught a health class this summer) is fill half your plate with veggies/salad. The other half can be other types of food. That way you limit how many calories really fit on your plate!
Also, get enough sleep and limit caffeine intake. Both can cause pounds to add on as your body can't heal and is hungrier because its being forced to be up several more hours (for example, I get hungry every 3 hours!)0 -
Hey! I am in a very similar situation. I am a college student but I live with my husband. I like to think I can eat as much as him and over 2 years I have now gained about 40 lbs and I am at my heaviest weight as well. I have lost 10 lbs so far on this diet and have completely changed my eating habits. I frequently snack on fruits... almost all day. Fiber One bars are great! They taste amazing plus they fill me up. I always thought those would taste like cardboard. This is my first time on a food diet. I have always tried to exercise to lose weight and have never given up food for it. Also, the low fat Nature's Own Low Calorie Honey Wheat bread tastes just like white bread and there is only 40 calories in each slice. I eat oatmeal almost every morning and I am good until lunch. I also plan my meals for the entire day, which has really helped me out. I very rarely deviate from what I am planning on eating. I bring a lunch cooler and have plenty of snacks and a good lunch. This hasn't been easy, but as soon as this first 5 lbs came off really fast, it definitely gave me the motivation to keep going. I never knew some of these "healthy" foods could taste so good. My mom has helped me out a lot trying to find things that taste good that I will actually like. You'll probably have to look around a lot and compare all different things. I hope this helps! Best of luck to you!0

I completely understand! Im finishing undergrad right now and then its off to grad for me as well. School has really been the reason I have put on all the weight, all the stress and late nights. Im all up for motivating each other if you want to add me, we all know its easier to put on the weight then to take it off.
My key tip thats been helping so far is to workout like its in your schedule. I have an easier time eating healthy if I worked out that day and I realized you cannot treat a workout as optional because then you probably wont do it. So you need to treat it like an appointment.0
