so this might be a silly question, but im a college student and my college is near a walmart (im unsure of the distance, but its a good piece of ways, not to mention its on a hill) anyway, is there an app that I could find for my android phone to track how many calories im burning. something I can just hit "start' and "stop" and it tells me?
*edit* I went to google maps and typed in the address of both the school and the walmart and according to it, it's 0.6 miles.
but i'd still like to know of an app.

See if you can download the "Nike +GPS" app. It's awesome - and you can sign up on the website and it keeps track of all your "runs" (walks) so you can see the total distance, set goals, etc. It works with your GPS so I'm assuming you have to have a "data plan" as well on the phone.
If you don't have a data plan, try to find a "pedometer" app which will keep track of your steps and give you a pretty good idea of how far you're going.
Good luck and keep walking!0 -
I use Cardiotrainer. It will tell you how fast you are going, how far you went, steps you took, and time. It's really great.0

Runkeeper
That's what I use. I've tried Cardiotrainer and My Tracks but go back to Runkeeper.0 -
This isn't an app but I have a Garmin Forerunner that I use for EVERYTHING. Even kayaking. So I can see how far I went. it's great for running, walking, biking, rollerblading, etc. I love it. I don;t have the one with the heart rate monitor, but there is one available.0

I use miAdidas for the iPhone but I bet they have it for the droid, too. Free. I love it. Lets you track miles on your shoes (so you don't end up with shin splints using broken down shoes). Creates a training plan for you (if you want). Tracks the route on a map. Gives you stats over different spans of time. Plays iPod music along with it if you want. miAdidas has a web interface, too, for even more functionality.0

I use the app iMapMyWalk and it's website. It will track your walking,running,etc.. You can record other workouts with this app too. It gives you time, distance, speed and other information as well. Good luck and have fun!0

My favorite is iMapMyFitness. It shows the hills you climbed and it's steepness, plus it shows how much you walk and what your average pace is.0

I use Cardiotrainer with the free Noom add-on. I ended up getting the Pro version of Cardiotrainer for free via Amazon's free app of the day a while back and liked it.0

Endomondo is what I use. I swear by it. Keeps track of walking, running, swimming-- basically any activity.
Tracks your calories burned, distance. There is a free app for most phone and a pro version for those that want more features.

Another note, most of these will use your phone's GPS so unless there's lots of windows, you're probably going to lose that signal. My Garmin lost signal in a tunnel during my half marathon, but then picked right back up when I got to the other side.0 -
I use cardiotrainer and I have a android it is free really like it..0

I have to second the Endomondo recommendation. On top of it being a fantastic app on the phone, it automatically syncs with their website and you can see your route on a map, review your times and compare to previous workouts. A tremendous app!
Oh, and I almost forgot. After my 20 mile ride on Monday, its estimated calorie count was within 7 calories of my Polar HRM!0 -
Endomondo app and website work great for tracking miles0

Gotta check these out when I get home tonight....or tomorrow lol.0

Even slow running
Even sitting
You press 'start', it logs where you go. Very easy to use. I've used it to compare driving distances.0 -
I use Pedometer if I think of it in time! It's avaiable in the android Market.. FREE0

Try this site:

I used to use it alot when I was home all the time and mainly exercised most of the day.0 -

Love Runkeeper and have tried many of the others listed.
You can change it from walking, to hiking, to biking, to running, and so on and so forth. It is a gps that tracks and maps out anytime you are on the move and estimates your cals burned based off your weight, etc.
You can actually buy the HRM to go with it too.0 -
I've used myTracks. Not crazy about it, takes forever to get GPS synced up and it's not very accurate. Have switched to AllSport GPS pro. Have tracked about 30 miles walking with it and it works well. Lots of options for activities and customized display. Been much more accurate as well.0

i have gps on my phone but ive never used it.
all these are great recommendations thank you all!0
