Just wondering because im trying to mix up my snacks with different fruits. My job brings in fresh fruit for the day so bananas, kiwis, apples, pears, and oranges are in stock.
I get alot of potassium already but was wondering if bananas are a good snack or maybe one to stay away from?

well.. a banana is a starch, so its kind of like a potato in that way, but a real healthy potato.. that doesn't need heating... and comes it a easily removable wrapper... and is a fruit ..0

Bananas are good! They are also really useful...if you freeze them it's like ice cream and they are also really good blended into smoothies and shakes. If I'm in a hurry I have them for breakfast sometimes.0

I like bananas for many, many reasons - you'll get people telling you that they are bad because of the sugar and the carbs, but they are also good. They are loaded with potassium and fiber, they are filling and can be a good mid-morning snack to push you through until lunch. Yes, a medium banana is about 100 calories, but I find them to be worth it. If I eat my banana at 10, I'm not hungry until around noon. I don't worry about the sugar because it's natural sugar and your body (I think) can burn that quicker than sucrose or HFCP. Overall, I'll enjoy my banana a day and track it... and still end up 150 under for my day.
Eat that banana! Fruit is your friend!0 -

Bananas are good in the morning or whenever you are about to have a particularly intense/strenuous workout, because of the high carbohydrate levels. They are NOT good as a snack in the evening after dinner, because of the same reason, as well as the fact that they pack a lot of pectin, which can stuff you up during the night. Therefore, it's also important to keep yourself hydrated as much as possible for any type of food that contains a lot of sodium or potassium (same qualities, but sodium is in EVERYTHING and gets the bad rep for adverse effects)0

I know! They are the cheapest thing on my grocery list! Cheaper than bread!0 -
There are only two downsides I see for a banana. First, compared to other fruits they're a little higher on calories so if you only have 60 left for the day, it'd be better to go with a clementine orange. Second is the aftertaste. I need coffee to get rid of that post-banana flavor. Otherwise, it's a great option.0

I think they are a good fruit. To me there is no such things as a bad fruit. Also, they are more filling than most IMHO. I eat them regularly.0

I have a severe potassium deficiency and, in addition to taking a potassium supplement, I eat at least one banana every day and eat potatoes and other high-potassium foods regularly. Plus, they are delicious. Since I've shed over 100 pounds and dropped my body fat by more than 33%, I am going to say that they are NOT a "bad fruit." I also eat apples almost every day.
That being said, if you are diabetic or at risk to become diabetic, it may be better to stick with fruits with less sugar, such as berries.0 -
I use it as a carb spike post workout. They good stuff.0

I can't really add anything that the other poster's haven't already stated, but I definitely favor bananas.
There aren't many fruits I do like for various reasons, but I can tolerate eating 1 banana a day. It's really filling & high in potassium.
Yeah, it may be a little calorie heavy, but I find it's well worth the 100 calories I normally spend to eat one0 -
