MY BIG BOOTIE WON'T COOPERATE!

I'm 38 and 5 3 1/2 and currently weigh 148! I'm frustrated because I have a lot of muscle but a lot of that muscle has turned to fat around my hips and thighs, and it's the hardest place for me to lose. I always lose weight fast from my tummy and my waist measured 27 inches today which is awesome but i wish my butt would listen and lose some too. My hips are 42 1/2 inches which gives me a 15 1/2 inch difference between my waist and my butt. Makes it hard to find jeans and it makes me look bigger. Any ideas on how I can start losing from that area more? I've been walking 2 1/2 miles 4 times a week. I have a heard condition so am not supposed to do lift heavy weights anymore or run long distance. Any ideas would be appreciated. .

Seriously.. Turn the caps lock off.. No need to yell.. we get it, your upset.
Can you do body weight exercises at all? If you can, try squats and lunges.. both will help with butt/hip/thigh area.0 -
Thanks. Yes I can do that. I'll give that a try. I just always worry that I'm going to turn the fat back into muscle and still be stuck with the huge bootie! Oh, and I did change my caps! Lol!0

Some of us are simply shaped like pears. Alas! Alas! No matter how much we lose, we simply end up looking like little pears instead of big ones.
Your waist size is healthy, showing that you have a minimum of fat around your internal organs. Very good. And if you loose more, you will probably lose where you want to lose.
Sometimes, you simply have to adopt strategic dressing for pear-shaped bodies, and learn to love your difference. Get some basic fashion advice about your body type---there are plenty of books out there with good advice about how to minimize the bottom heavy look.
And stay fit! You always look good when you are fit.0 -
fat doesn't turn to muscle and muscle doesn't turn to fat. :flowerforyou:
Check out some kettlebell workouts. I just started using mine and I can already feel my body getting tighter, especially in the butt and legs.
Here's a starting point ... Prevention magazine had an article about kettlebells and if your scroll down the page, you'll see
"Videos you may like" and you should see a vid for a kettlebell workout. Also, if you scroll through those, there are testimonial videos as well. Chris Freytag admits it's a modified workout but I think it's a valid place to begin.

I've taken up Spinning 3X a week and it has wittled my butt and hips down tremendously. I tried on jeans today that I wore when I was 20lbs lighter and amazingly they fit. Now to get my upper body in shape.0

muscle is denser then fat.. so even though, you'll have more muscle it will be smaller because there is not a layer of squishy spread out fat on top.
i got a huge bottom side too, and all I do is squats, lunges and leg presses.. I do mine with weights, but since you can't, you gotta do what you can!0 -
Booty=Hot. I wish my girl had some booty. I mean, I love her and her flat *kitten* no matter what, just sayin'. As a man, my booty is rather wasted on me and it does make pants-buying a challenge. I just have to accept I will never be able to wear "classic fit" pants. But I feel like there are enough bootylicious girls out there that there must be a place where they shop. It's just not Talbot's or whatever. Anyway, at least in your picture you look awesome. If that happens to be your natural shape, you lucked out.0

Well thanks Formicaman. That is my whole families natural shape, all us girls. We all complain. And I don't mind the hourglass figure, I just want the hourglass to be smaller..... lol, if that makes sense. Anyway. Have received some good advise and will try some new things and see what happens.0

I am a member of the big booty club (25 inch waist, 41 inch hip/butt). All you can do is lose weight. I'm still fighting with mine.0

Some people would be proud of a booty. My daughter keeps complaining she can't gain weight in her butt. I, OTOH, have no problem with that. And of course, all 20 of the pounds I've lost came straight out of my breasts. If you can afford it, there's always liposuction. You could deduct some of the cost on your schedule A, since surgery, if it improves health, is a medical expense, and a heart condition justifies a weight loss procedure.0

From my personal experience I would recommend doing cardio, cardio and more cardio to lose fat and long with a solid eating plan. Do weights to build muscle on the upper half of your body to balance yourself out and do weights for lower body to tighten the muscles already their, but do not build more muscle on lower body.0

I hear ya...just turned 40 this year and my extra weight sits in my butt. Ugh. I do the lower body arc trainer at the gym and that
seems to help tone it up and give me a good cardio workout but my butt will never be small. I've had 3 kids (all c section) and so my waist isn't as small as I'd like at all but I have such a hard time finding pants and jeans to fit when there's such a difference between my waist and butt size. I'm 5ft 1, weigh about 126, my waist is 30", butt is 40". I think no matter what I do, my butt's not going anywhere:grumble:0 -

I have to go along with this.0
