SO SICK OF PEOPLE TELLING ME I CAN'T.

I am sick and tired of being told I can't.

Being told that I am not capable of completing my dreams.

I recently changed my major to Criminal Justice because I want to work for the government. I want to work for homeland security, the FBI or something along those lines. I have wanted this for years and years, and for years and years I have had my mother telling me I can't do that.
That I'm not brave enough.
Not strong enough.
Not tough enough.

Well guess what, i can BECOME braver. I can BECOME stronger. And I am certainly tough as hell.

Now I have my friends laughing at me, telling me I'm "too petite" for that line of work. That I "couldn't hurt a fly."

YOU DON'T GO INTO LAW ENFORCEMENT WITH THE INTENTION OF HURTING PEOPLE, FIRST OF ALL.

And second of all I am in the midst of getting stronger, and more muscular.

Does anyone else have this problem? I know that a lot of you can probably relate, since weight loss is a touchy subject with the general public and most people try to tell you you "can't"

WELL GUESS WHAT. I can, you can and we all can. We just have to work for it.

  • Oh yes. I dreamed of joining the Navy for years and years and years. It was my only goal all through high school. But my parents told me I wasn't strong enough, I didn't have the discipline, etc.

I didn't ever join. I believed them and now I don't know if I will be proud of myself ever for not at least trying.

Don't let them beat you down!

Hell yeah - great attitude. When someone underestimates your potential, at least they'll never see you coming.

For many years I was told I wasn't smart enough to go to college. I just graduated with my Bach. of Science in CJ, and I'm 39 years old. You can do it, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

When I was in high school I desperately wanted to be in the Coast Guard. My mom said I wasn't strong enough for the military and would hate it. I was determined to do it.

Within 2 years, I had spinal fusion and couldn't do it - not because *I* didn't want it, because the military wouldn't take me with the rods in my spine. I KNOW I could have done it and I KNOW I would have loved it, enjoyed it, been good at it.

Pfft to mothers who don't support their children's dreams. If my kids tell me what they want to do with their life - I will support them (as long as it is legal, ethical and moral).

With the right mindset, determination, and desire you can achieve almost anything. (I havent figured out how to fly by using just my mind.)

My mom laughed at me when I was signng up to take the SATs. She said I wasn't smart enough for college. That really got to me. I was so afraid to apply to colleges and never took my SATs. I ended up going to community college tho and recently applied to Towson University and I'm in the process of applying to UMBC. I'm smart, talented, and no words can touch me now. You go for your dreams girl!!

Never give up on your dream. There will always be obstacles and disappointment, but if you really really want something, you'll find a way to fulfill it.

^ Yup to that! That is what I tell my teen all the time! I Don't CARE what you do, garbage man, cashier, police, SEALS, FBI etc as long as YOU are happy and love what you do and its legal then IDK!
  • My parents pushed me to become a primary school teacher for years. I almost gave into them this year but decided NO!

Don't let them beat you down or push you around. You always think that through life your parents are there for you no matter what (which some are!) but they don't always know what is best for you!! Do what you think is best for you and hey if it doesnt work out at least you can say you gave it your best shot :)

    luck! xxxx
