Feeling guilty

So, I had a great workout yesterday and was feeling great about my progress. Afterwards, however, I felt completely drained and starved. When I got home, my husband told me we were going to have some guests, so we did a lot of cleaning. While the guests were over, pizza was ordered and I helped myself to some pizza.... Ok, A LOT of pizza. I literally had 5 slices. Even though I finished the day under my calorie goal, I can't help be feel extremely guilty.
So, would it be completely idiotic for me to pretty much skip out on eating today to make up for last night's slip up and just drink a lot of fluids? I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to calorie consumption, so any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

if you were under your calorie allotment yesterday, then just eat as you normally would today. you will be fine. its nice to indulge in pizza sometimes.0
-
and missing out today would achieve what ???
you were under so who gives a rats *kitten*
im off out for a chinese tonight, that mean i cant eat tomorrow ??0 -
I wouldnt worry about it. Id probably eat 3 more today LOL! You didnt go over calories and you are aldready trim. No one gains 700lbs from eating pizza one night. Eat your normal foods today.0
-
You need to keep eating. Why feel guilty about food? Feel guilty about hurting someone, being mean, unethical. Guilt over food is not productive.0
-
Ever so often, I'll eat a 1000+ calorie dinner after a 5-6 mile run and it doesn't bother me. I wouldn't feel too bad about it if you were under your calorie limit. Never reduce calories the next day.. there's no point to it. Just eat cleanly if it bothers you so much.0

I hear you, my mom's cooking tends to do that to me. I take it one day at a time, you can only do so much in one day and indulging one day is not going to make you gain weight. I think it even wakes up your body a little bit. Just keep trying everyday and don't feel guilty, it happens to everyone0
-
I really hope your not trying to loose weight. You look like your at a perfect weight. Pizza isnt going to kill you as long as you dont eat it everyday. Dont starve yourself. Just WORK OUT that will make you feel better0
-
If you stayed under it doesn't matter what you ate. All the power to you I hope you enjoyed the pizza. Don't feel guilty, just eat healthier today and drink tons of water. Just jump right back in the game and stay on track. It's OK every now and then to have a treat. I wish you the best of luck!!!0

"Forgive and forget". I agree with hmalin1 that you should continue along. Do try to remember the icky feeling you got from giving in to the pizza urge and how good it possibly would feel to have resisted a little for the next time you are confronted by temptation. This is so a learning and discovery process.....0

I've done this too. Some things that may help:
1.) Eat 2 slices, wait an hour. If you're still hungry for another slice or two, perhaps you may need it (and your calorie goal has reaffirmed that you did need it).
2.) Drop the guilt. It serves no purpose other than causing unnecessary stress and heart disease. The past is gone and if you're under goal, then it doesn't matter. The only choices we can affect are here and now, so we give the 'nod' to our mistakes when we make them, understand them, learn from them and apply a better method next time. So, would it be completely idiotic for me to pretty much skip out on eating today to make up for last night's slip up and just drink a lot of fluids? I do this, I call it "paying off the debt". I wouldn't go 0 calorie to try to re-balance, but at least reduce for the next day to off-set if you go over the goal for the day. I couldn't imagine how throwing the body into a binge-starvation shock cycle would be healthy.0 -

Why in the world would you feel guilty? You finished UNDER your calorie goal. UNDER.

Yes, it would be completely idiotic. Yesterday, you were in a DEFICIT. Yesterday you were SUCCESSFUL provided that your goal is to lose weight. Did you miss out on some micros? Maybe, but in the long term WHO CARES.
There is no pizza fairy that will show up at night and make you fat. And if there WAS one, that bish better give me a meat lovers, well done.
I'm using caps because I can't figure out how to bodlface btw. I'm not trying to yell at you.
Lastly, guilt-based starvation methods can be prescursors to eating disorders. Do not take this behavior lightly.0 -
I personally feel that a person never needs to skip eating for a day to make up for transgressions the day before. If you had gone way over your calorie limit, I'd say eat a bit under today, but definitely eat. Remember - this is about accomplishing life changes, not about punishing yourself. Since you ate within calorie limits, I'd vote that you eat within calorie limits today, but really focus on eating as healthy as possible, and drinking a ton of water.
I can't stress enough that this is about a life plan, not just a quick fix. When we punish ourselves with food, there are usually one of two outcomes. Either we go off the diet completely because we're so disgusted, or we trick ourselves into thinking it's ok to overeat one day and skip eating the next on a regular basis - which just isn't healthy. Just do your best to eat better on a regular basis and acknowledge that you're human and will have unhealthy eating days on occasion.0 -
Over-indulgence happens. I definitely wouldn't skip on eating today. I would eat normally, but perhaps try to make it a lower sodium day. Good luck!0

This is a good point.0 -
The biggest thing that will get you, even more than the pizza is the guilt.
Do not feel guilty. Guilty= Stuffing my face in my world.
Wipe the slate clean and forget yesterday. Look at the 5 lbs you've lost and think to yourself, "I'm going to have a GREAT day today!"
You can do it!!!0 -
Why do you feel guilty? Guilty about what? Not calories, since you were under. Is pizza a "forbidden" food in your thinking? There's nothing wrong with having some pizza once in a while, or even a lot of pizza. Maybe a lot of fat and sodium, but it's one meal, it's not important in the long run.
Guilt should have nothing to do with food. What is the purpose of starving yourself today? It's not to balance out your calories. Sounds like you just think you need to punish yourself.0 -
I guess I am wondering if 'being under" is psycholigically enough for the original poster (and for me) - even if I am under, if I end the day with a huge meal and know I am going to sleep on it and know it is going to get stored much differently than if I ate protein or ate those same calories more evenly distributed over the day - i.e. stored as fat.
Most of my dancer friends and my naturopathic doctor say do carbs if at all with breakfast and lunch and not with dinner and try not to eat after 7pm (even if you go to bed at midnight) - eating carbs late in the day does get stored differently - but what I dont claim to know is whether that is true if you are under your caloric needs...
I wouldn't skip today at all! That would make me just binge later...0 -

You can eat all of your calories before bed and you will show a net decrease in weight over the course of time, provided you are in a deficit.

This carb-timing strategy is myth and has been pretty much established as such.
I wouldn't skip today at all! That would make me just binge later...
^ I agree!0 -
Yes, it would be completely idiotic so change today.0

Really? Carb timing is a myth ? That is amazing news. Because I want carbs way more at the end of the day than the beginning. If protein keeps me fuller longer ya it makes sense to eat that breakfast and lunch but if carbs make me feel sated at night and peeve r me from overeating then maybe I should switch it up- I've just been so afraid of eating carbs at night believing my bod stores them as fat faster than other calories even if I am in a deficit for the day....0

It is a myth in that it will not effect gain or loss of fat. It will effect water weight fluctuations. What is important is 24-hour fat-balance, not an isolated snapshot.
The key point here though, is that you still need to keep your DAILY intake the same. If you want to shift calories around during the day so that you eat more at night, but less in the day (keeping your daily intake the same), it will not hurt your goal of losing fat.
You should structure your meal timing and even individual macronutrient timing around personal preference.0 -
You were under your calorie goal, feeling guilty is just silly.0

I completely understand the guilty feeling. Eating 5 pieces of pizza is not a failure on your part. I've been at this for 4 months and i'm just now starting to get over the "oh I ate a doughnut, i should feel guilty since i should've had fruit". It's one doughnut in 4 months. This is your lifestyle now, it's ok to have treats. It's unrealistic to think you will never eat "unhealthy" things and if you that means you are a failure and should punish yourself by starving later. You are doing an awesome job. No more guilt-you were enjoying a party with your friends. You don't do it every day so don't stress too much  I lost 50 lbs before I had my daughter and the most shocking revelation I had was that this journey is 98% mental.0

just move on...............0

I needed to hear this today. Well said. Quoting/posting so I can save and re-read this when I need to.0 -

Being under is definitely not enough for me when i know that I consumed such a large amount of calories in one sitting, especially when it was right before I went to sleep for the night. I just can't help but look back and think how much more productive yesterday could have been towards my overall weight loss goal if I had limited myself to one or two slices.
I understand the repercussions of punishing myself over something this silly. I would work out if I could, but I have a pinched nerve in my back that started acting up after my work out yesterday, so I wanted to take it easy today. I will reduce my calorie intake for the day, but I will not go under 1200 calories. Just taking it one day at a time I suppose.0 -
Im feeling right this moment . Just ate 3 pieces of Pizza..,,, a fulltime home maker and mom to my 4 month old daughter. i hardly ever had the time to go exercise and yet desperately want back my slim figure. but did not resist temptation today.feel so guilty .0
