I decided it was time for me to get serious about my weight loss. I've put on about 10 lb in the last months due to moving across the country (it's very hard to eat sensibly when you eat out 3x/day!), but had also put on a lot of weight over the last several years. I have been lax about getting regular exercise and being fit. Over the last few months I made several half-hearted attempts at losing weight but gave up when they were so restrictive that I was frustrated, when I wasn't strict enough with myself on them (the late night snacking!), or when I was frustrated when the weight didn't peel off of me immediately.

Now that we're settled in our new home, I decided it was time to start being serious about the weight. So I downloaded MyFitnessPal for the BlackBerry and started tracking everything I eat. i started this at 206; I'd like to get down to 150 which for my height (5'7") has always been a good weight that looked healthy on me.

I know that effective weight loss is slow; I also know that if I cut back calories too drastically I get miserable fast. So I set my preferences for losing 1 lb. a week. This lets me eat enough food so I don't feel like I'm starving. At the same time I'm learning about portion control and making smart choices. I like that there is no "thou shall not eat" list and that I can eat whatever I want... but at the same time, I need to accept the consequences of doing that and compensate by cutting back on other meals or doing a little extra exercise.

It's near the end of my second week. I'm trying to accept that I need to be VERY patient with this; this has always been the hardest part of weight loss with me. I remind myself of that every day and tell myself to hang in there. After all, a pound a week is 52 lb in a year, which would practically bring me to my goal weight!

Looking forward to getting to know others who are trying to lose weight and get fit too! :)

It can be hard at first, waiting for the weight loss - I'm in the same boat. But hang in there and keep doing what your doing - being conscious of your portions and aware of your eating habits. One pound a week is a great goal that will keep you on a realistic eating plan - and by taking it off slowly, you should better be able to keep it off. Keep it up!

    Excellent choice, just stay committed.

I found the MFP app in January and said. "huh think I'll try this." The wife followed suit two days later and the daughter few days after that, and between us all we've lost a whole person. It all started with one small change, then another and another. No programs, fads, crutches to lean on, or restrictions, just finding our way of making it work.

If you stay commit you'll find you'll make one small change after another and you'll reach your goal.

You'll thank yourself for 6 months from now.

Started today, for about almost the exact same reasons. In 2008, while pregnant with our oldest son I tipped the scales weighing 232 lbs. I was able to drop the 35 lbs. gained rather quickly after giving birth and breastfeeding, but the pounds slowly crept back on and in 2009 when I found out I was pregnant with our youngest son I started off at 212 and topped off that pregnancy weighing 229 lbs.

Through the years I've been able to maintain my weight between 197-205 but since having my sons my weight just keeps creeping higher and higher currently I weigh in at 219 lbs.

I've got a pretty sedentary lifestyle. I'm an Administrative Assistant to a Lawyer and sit a large part of the day. I need to take control of the poor eating habits I've picked up and take control of my health for my myself and my family.
  • I heard about this site from my cousin and thought I would try it out. The more I explore what all it offers and things like that, the more excited I get. With all the encouragement that you can receive here and all, I know we can do it!! Whoot!! Whoot!!
