I am not here to really complain. I'm just here to let everyone know that I suck at dieting. I seem to not be able to find that drive I had last year when I dropped a lot of weight. Not sure what to do with myself. Tips..?

One of things to consider is a mental shift from looking at it as a "diet" and more of an "eating lifestyle". By so doing you're not feeling like if you're "missing out". Thereafter you can review food diaries of your friends for suggestions on what to eat. Hope that helps. Oh and you're NOT a failure, whatsoever, your very presence proves you're on the right path!
  • Normally at school I am fine, but i get hungry do a McDonalds run, then decide I already ruined it so I eat a crapload thinking "oh ill start tomorrow forreal" This happens EVERYDAY though..

You've GOT TO pull yourself out of these funks. I did this last year after my father passed away and wondered why I put 30lbs. back on in a year. You need to be in the game mentally as well as physically and on top of your diet. I have no other way to say this to you. Give yourself some tough love. The only advice I can offer. I hate not getting to eat what I want, but it's the price I pay for the results I'm getting. :)

you can still have mcdonalds every once in a while without "ruining" it. dont totally deny yourself or you will fail. Plan it ahead of time and make sure it fits into your allowed calories.

u are only a failure if you quit and don't get back on it again. It's okay to fall off the wagon, just don't let it run you over.

write down the top 10 (this isn't my idea...but saw it on here) reasons why you hate being over-weight. Also, write down some goals and have mini goals.

also, look at the reasons why you don't h ave the drive (and when you did) and what you differently then AND can change now.

try makign it a lifestyle thing....

good luck!! everyone has ups and downs!

this happens to me sometimes...used to happen to me more often...where I'd eat something bad and say "eff it, may as well enjoy some more crap the rest of the day. there's always tomorrow to get back on track". fortunately nowadays, when that happens I take my will power pill (read my lists) and get back on track pretty quickly.

Your BIGGEST problem is that you are dieting. Dieting sucks! And it doesnt work. Maintain a consistent and healthy lifestyle! Focus on eating right and working out consistently.

    Also stop putting yourself down.

You can splurge a little with mcdonads, but dont eat it daily.
I know its hard with being in school.
I take my lunch to work. It only takes 90 seconds to heat up and less then 400 calories.. ranges 200-320.
    Hormel compleats.
If you feel like you ate too much, work harder when you get home.

#1 - stop with the negative self talk
#2 - Kick your butt by going for a high octane work out
#3 - Clean out the garbage food from your home...actually throw it out and replace it with fruits, veggies, whole grains and lean meats.

Yeah I did that. And I tomorrowed my way up to 285 pounds. Tomorrow never comes. Then one "today" you find yourself on the floor at K-mart with the back spasm from Hell, unable to get up and looking like a beached whale.

This is a blog I did about that incident and the whole "tomorrow" thing. http://thedancingcyclist.wordpress.com/2010/05/08/helloworld/

Please take five minutes and stand in front of a mirror. Do you see what I see? A creation of mind, body and soul! Look deeper...stronger and reach in, and see the reflection. Now step back, and say..I AM WORTH IT...I CAN DO THIS..I want to feel like I am strong, I am beautiful, and I make a difference....

If you do this, seriously each day for one week, you will believe it! I am very serious! Take time to breathe..meditate(seriously), or just look out a window. FIVE MINUTES..DO THIS AFTER YOU USE THE POTTY! YOU GOT THIS!!!!!

If you can dedicate a few hours a day to resisting some sugar, or salt, or sweet drink, and replace with water you will find strength in lasting longer. NOTHING IS A CURE, you must train the mind.

No, I am not some guru chic, but I believe in the power of the mind, and it changed my life. I wanted my life more than *kitten* food! Sure I indulge somedays, but I eat to live, and not live to eat, and when all else fails....
Nothing tastes as good as being thin and FIT feels.....

    PLEASE DO IT FOR YOURSELF>

drog is too kind. I'm human like everyone else. I've had my share of stumbling blocks. I've been fortunate this time around to have failed enough in the past to take some time to honestly reflect on why things go awry. Doing these reflections have given me epiphanies of sort as to why I stumble and ways to stay on track. I've also benefitted from the advice of others. I felt that the reflection process was powerful and helpful enough to create a blog that I could share with others....so that others might have an easier time staying on track (or at least limiting the stumbling blocks).

we're human. we stumble. when we take time to think about why we've stumbled, we learn.

as drog said earlier, you're only a failure if you give up. your post suggests you haven't given up. good luck to you on your journey.

you must really want it...i mean REALLY.

Find your motivation and drive by doing google searches for images that will motivate you. Set goals with deadlines and numerical parameters (i want to run a 5k in 2 months at a 10:30 pace...or I want to squat 150 lbs in 2 months....whatever)

if you dont have solid goals and motivation to look to when you are stuck, you wont reach your goals.

Also, focus on small things in terms of exercise or eating changes so you dont get overwhelmed.

if all else fails, read people's success stories until you go cross-eyed!

Have you tired packing a lunch and a few snacks to take to school? I like to keep some 100 calore treats handy. It helps to keep me from hitting the snack machine at work.

McDonalds doesn't have to ruin your day. Value meals are tempting, but you would feel more in charge if you ordered single items that you really enjoy and get water to go with them, or get a kids meal instead of an adult meal. My 4-year old and I have a McDonald's date just about once a week. So, we share one value meal and I usually get away with about 400 calories, which leaves room for an evening snack with my family!

If you can try to stop looking at it as a "diet", which is usually temporary torture to take off a few pounds (and regain them later), and see it as a change of lifestyle for a happier, healthier you, you'll probably fare a little better.

Something that has recently helped me was watching Food Inc and now I have Fat, Sick, & Dead coming and few more documentaries...

I've been reading Jillian Michaels: Unlimited and I'm all about my inspirational quotes, poems, sayings...it works for me.

Wake up every morning and tell yourself you're going to have a good day, a set back is minor, don't make it worse. Its ok to trip, its ok to stumble...that happens, what matters is how YOU react to it. Stop saying I can't do this or I've already failed. Look at it like, WHY CAN'T I DO THIS?!

My sister and I have developed a super healthy competition almost with each other. Neither of us wants to be "left behind" and we're good at motivating each other and helping each other. Do you have anyone that can be committed to this with you? It helps so much!

"Its not about how hard you can hit; its about how hard you can get hit and keep going"

You are not a failure... are you dead? it isn't over yet girl pick yourself up and keep going!! If you like to eat more calories you have to burn more calories... I like to eat, therefore I spend most evenings at the gym working it off! Use the darn food diary faithfully its so helpful to open your eyes to what you should be eating and if you wanna eat more what kinds of foods you can eat... did you know pickles have 0 calories :) Food diary is a tremendous help for me because otherwise I do what i call 'mindless eating' just eating things without realizing their impact on my body, the diary highlights the good the bad and the ugly in your diet.
