Medication

I get migraines, so now I have to take this medication that is for seizures, but also for migraines. Before you ask, no, I don't get seizures, but it's just the medication that reacts the least to the other types of medication I have to take. This medication I'm taking is making me lose my appetite completely. I've barely been eating, at all, even for me. I hardly ever ate before, to the point where everyone was concerned, even though I just wasn't hungry. I'd have a hard time hitting 1000 calories a day. Now I'm having a hard time eating more than a few bites of anything at a time. How dangerous is this? I feel like I'm full, or just not hungry at all, but I'm always thirsty and drinking water. Should I bring this up to my doctor when I see him in a few days? I've only been taking this new medication for a week.

I would. If anything else, just find out if it is a reaction, or a side effect. Many medicines (including both of mine) mess with appetite, so you might just want to make sure that you know all side effects.
  • I will hazard a guess at Topamax or topirimate? It is a typical side effect, drink the water, and try to eat a little through the day. You need sustenance.

I think it's Topirimate but I can't remember the name. I know it's one of those two.
  • They are actually the same Topamax is the brand. :) It is actually a fairly common side effect, it will lesson as your body gets used to the medication. If it doesn't lessen in about two months you should talk to your doctor. Just make sure you make yourself eat.

Check first with your doctor, even if it is just a call to his office to ask. Meds can affect people differently. Your doc wants and needs to know about reactions like loss or gain of appetite, and can suggest changes.
