So I dont' know how you all do it if you have to take numerous medications, but some insight would be nice...

I currently take

Metformin 2x's daily for PCOS usually 9-10am (with snack) and 2-4pm (with snack)

Synthroid 1x for Hypothyrodism usually 6:45-7:15ish right after I get up or before I leave the house - eat my yogurt when I get to work about 8ish

Synthroid has to be taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and I cannot eat for 20 minutes after. No Supplements can be taken 2-4 hours after. Calcium and Iron can't be taken for 4 hours after.

I would like to add in

Biotin 3000mcg (I use to take this, it helps my skin and hair, from PCOS & Hypothyroidism)

Active Daily Supplement (which has Iron so can't be taken for 4 hours after Synthroid)

Vitamin D

Calcium (can't be taken for 4 hours after Synthroid

All recommended by my nutritionist...How the heck do I fit that in all in one day? ..

Could you just take the extra supplements after lunch or dinner?

Funny Im going to see my dr in an hour and was going to ask about supplements. I wait 30-45till minutes to eat after my thyroid stuff. It makes a noticeable difference to me. Anyways... I'll ask him about a clear black and white way to go about this and I'll let you know shortly.

I try to wait 1 to 2 hours after thyroid meds to eat, and I take it at 7 and 3. I take supplements after supper.
  • Take all the vitamins and suppliments at lunch, or with the afternoon metforman. As long as it is a consistant time of day tthat you use it doesn't matter that they aren't taken in the morning. As is stands it doesn't look like you can take them any time before noon to begin with.

Just remember that taking vitamins, etc. with prescription meds can reduce the efficacy of the meds. So try to take them separately.
  • You could always take the supplements with your lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner. If you spread them out that way you won't be taking so many at one time. As long as you take them at about the same time everyday there really shouldn't be a problem with it.

I take two supplements during the day, a dietary multivitamin and acaitrim pills. I take my OCD medication, at night that way I know I have the whole night where I don't have to worry about having to weight hours to take the supplements.

I take thyroid meds in the morning, and vitamins with/after dinner. i also try to wait about 30-45 minutes after I take levoxyl (thyroid med) before I have breakfast. This seems to work for me :)

Be careful when you take calcium as in inhibits the body from absorbing other vitamins / medications.

My memory is so bad that I'm lucky if I remember them at all! I just pop them all as soon as I wake up. Sure, I may not be getting optimum absorption, but some benefit is better than none :D
  • Do not take your multi with the iron and the vitamin d together. I have/had a horrible sun rash and my dr put me on 5,000IU of D a day but the rash didnt go away. She said to take the D at night and not only can I go in the sun now, but for the first time in my life I got a tan this summer. Iron can effect your body's absorbtion of D

My Dr suggested taking the thyroid meds at night, but you do have to wait two hours after eating.

Sorry! I almost forgot. My dr said the other day with my thyroid meds don't take with iron. But my uncle said he can't drink milk for a couple hours. Maybe try making a sketch/ graph so you could see when would be a good time for each
