It's all in moderation.
A quote I live by: "One reason many people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want MOST for what they want at the MOMENT.""
You will have to make sacrifices, yes. If you don't change- nothing will change. Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.0 -

It's tough when you start realising that this "diet" isn't going to end..... but the good thing is working out that you can eat all kinds of good stuff and still lose or maintain your weight. I think maintaining is going to be a whole lot trickier than losing ever was - but we CAN do it!0 -

To me it doesn't mean I can't have those things I really like, such as crunchy jalepeno cheetos, I just have to actually be smart and plan for it and have portion control. That means pouring only one serving into a container and just eating those.
It is a change, but it doesn't mean giving up what you like completely, and some days won't be perfect and some days you just have the burger etc and either work it off, or make up for it other ways/days
Good luck on your journey I know MFP (aka myfitnesspal) has made this time around trying to loose weight so much easier and more successful0 -

This says it all .... it's a lifestyle change, don't think diet! "Diets and exercise programs" are usually considered short-term...agree with this post above because if this plan wasn't so flexible I would not have succeeded like I have. I LOVE food and get bored really easy so I have been able to work in the fried clams, chocolate cravings, lobster or ice cream treats... all summer! It's all about planning ahead, exercising for that treat or working it in somehow. You have to live too but everything in moderation... you can do it! A lot of people zig zag on purpose so on the days that are up, you have a few more calories then eat super clean on the lower days so your body does not get used to the same 1200 (or whatever) calories every day... good luck, you can do this!! Variety variety variety0 -
I can relate. For me, its about "growing up" and taking responsibility (which means, the ability to choose our response).
Far too often have I sought the "immediate satisfaction", whether it be going out to a dinner, buying a new electronic gadget, or basically choosing something for instant gratification over something that would yield long term happiness.
Basically, its an ongoing war with myself. Choosing one over the other. We all laugh at our internal battles, but honestly it can drag us down. When we constantly choose to appease one need and deny an opposing need too much we tend to feel bad. (example choosing junk food over healthy living, we can feel guilty; or choosing healthy "diet" foods, over a treat we feel tired of dieting).
It boils down to finding the harmony between the two. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of people on here who have successfully found that balance. You can really see it in their posts and comments. For me, it was when I thought I had fallen off the wagon and ate a donut; frankly because I had been craving one for so long. That one donut didn't kill my diet, I easily worked it off by doing yard work and cleaning. Then it hit me, I didn't feel guilty about the donut.
$0.02....
