Protein Powder on a Budget

Hi everybody! I'm wanting to try out some protein powder, I think I need to start getting my protein levels higher & protein powders are just so convenient. I used them years ago when I was training for swimming but haven't bought any on my own. I'm planning to go to GNC today, what are some good suggestions?
My requirements: relatively low in sugar (or none @ all), @ least 25g of protein per scoop, less than 120 calories per scoop (preferably less), tastes half decent, not a lot of chemicals & over processed crap. I'm looking for a 100% whey protein, but I'm open to suggestions. I don't do heavy weights so I'm not looking to bulk up, just lean out.

Have you ever been to the site TrueProtein.com? You can make your own blend based on your needs. You can also get popular premixes in bulk. Very affordable as you pay for your mix by the pound.0

At GNC I usually try any of the gold standard whey products. Ive had the vanilla and chocolate in the past which were good, and right now i have cookies and cream. They all tasted good to me especially if you blend them with a banana or skim or something. I believe they were all 120 cal per scoop0

I'm a fan of the gold standard line also. I really like casein protein as I feel fuller longer but it has about the same qualities as the whey other wise. -word of caution, you need more water/milk because its extra thick.0

If you are picky about flavor & want to try some out (so you don't spend a bundle on a flavor that you end up hating)... I'd start by searching online for brands that offer sample or trial sizes. Sometimes they'll even offer them for free in hopes that you'll get hooked. Personally, my fave is Syntrax Nectar brand, it has no sugar or carbs.0

Optimum Nutrition. 5lbs of quality, awesome tasting whey for $45 at Vitamin Shoppe. I just checked GNC.com and it's on sale there for $47 there. I don't check GNC much anymore, but they used to charge the list price for ON. I try and order from Vitamin Shoppe whenever possible because they typically have much better prices than GNC, plus their salespeople don't harass you if you ask them a question.0

Another vote for Optimum Nutrition.
Also keep an eye on Vitamin Shoppes website. They often have "buy one, get the 2nd for 1/2 off" sales on their house brand, which isn't too bad either.0 -
Optimum nutrition for sure. I get it at bodybuilding.com and it's super affordable, I think I paid like $20 for a 2-lb jar, which lasts me a little over a month.0
