Hello!

Lets say i walk everyday for 30 minutes does that mean I'm burning around the same number of calories each time? Aren't our bodies supposed to get used to the whole walking thing everyday and burn less each time as it becomes 'easier'?

Sorry if this is a stupid question lol.. but i want to make sure that my exercise diary is accurate each time :)

Ty! x

    You'll only burn a few less, like 50. But since you're getting in better shape you're probably walking slightly faster over time which means you'll burn more. Don't stress about tiny little things like this or you'll drive yourself mad.

    If you are doing the same workout, your body will get used to and learn to be efficient (about how to use less muscle and burn less energy). Take up a notch and step up with more intensive workout. You look young, and 30 min walk is really nothing (in my opinion).

    * Go for a longer walk, with more hills;
    * Start running if you like
    * Do a HIIT workout
    * Start strength training (lift weights)
    * etc

    Bring up your heart rate, and work your muscles. Good luck

    I'm hardly an expert but I've been doing 30DS and I've only just gotten a HRM last weekend and I've noticed my calories burned have gone down about 40calories since last week doing the same workout.

    I never burn the same calories each time even if I'm doing the same thing I did the day before. Sometimes it's more, sometimes it's less.
  • From my understanding, which all things said might be wrong, we burn X amount of calories per pound of body weight per hour doing different tasks. For instance... I know that shoveling dirt is approx. 3.9 calories per pound of body fat per hour. So let's say you weigh 150 lbs. and you shovel dirt for a half hour

    3.9 cals x 150 pounds x .5 hours = 292.5 calories burned in 30 minutes.

    Your body will get used to the exercise of walking for thirty minutes; however, as you get used to it, you will also be likely to start walking faster and further in those 30 minutes than you did when you originally started.

    I'm interested in seeing what other people have to say though.

    Funny this comes up, I was just reading an article about how if you walk the same path for the same distance your body will become accustom to the workout and burn less calories simply because it learns the routine. It suggested changing it up by walking different courses with different challenges such as hills and different lengths. Albeit though as you get more in shape you will burn less calories for a given period of time or a given workout. Interval training will keep your body guessing as to whats next.

    I've been noticing this with my HRM, too. My calories burned seem to be dropping by about 20-50 cals per workout (circuit and Zumba) no matter how hard I push at it. :grumble: I'm wondering how to overcome it.
