Is it possible to turn yourself off a certain food by not eating it for a long period of time?
I used to eat pizza every day, had it today for the first time in MONTHS... had about two bites before I was like what the hell am I eating this for? This tastes so gross. I used to think it was amazing. :S

Yes! Chicken Kiev used to be my favourite.... Then at lunch the other day someone had one next to me, and the smell and look of that butter made me feel sick. I had steak and salad instead0

Yes...I think once you start eating healthy those other foods full of fat are just repulsive...your body craves healthier foods!0

The same happened to me with cheap chocolate after being initiated by my friends to homemade quality Belgian chocolate and dark chocolate... Yuck!! But I must say that I completely gave up chips several years ago (I used to binge on them!!) and the smell of an open bag still bugs me even if I haven't eaten any in around 5 years! :-)0

Yes!!! I went out to eat with my husband the other night and had onion rings which I haven't had in months and I was like "yuck!!!" As for pizza, I make mine at home with chicken, tomatoes, and a light crust...family gets the other kind, but I really enjoy mine...make calazones too with lots and lots of veggies!

Our bodies are made to operate on whole foods in their most natural state and do not really like processed foods. When I eat sugary treats after eating apples and other fruit for a while, the sugar turns me off. And fried foods do the same, especially french fries. I think our bodies adapt to a healthy way of eating and if we try to go back to the "bad" stuff, it doesn't like it.0

Absolutely. I have actually been made sick eating a food that I had not eaten in a long time.0

Wow...I think I need to do this! Maybe with cheese
I know cheese has some nutritional value (calcium, protein)...but it's so high in calories for me! I know moderation is key...but I LOVE cheese
I think I may have to give this a try

Yeay for you! I used to think this is possible. Taste buds do change. I have never personally experienced it until after my gastric bypass. Studies and dieticians will tell you that after 6 months, an activity becomes a habit. So if you don't eat pizza for 6 months, you should be able to give it up just fine. Never did it for me. Good luck, sounds like it is working for you.0

I hadn't eaten nutella for quite some time and then I discovered I still had a jar at the back of the pantry, hmm well needless to say I hadn't gone off nutella, I don't know how anyone could.....0

I haven't tried doing it on purpose but I won't ever eat at McD's again, yuck! The grease makes me sick in my stomach, it hurts!
Pizza, on the other hand is a different game. I never like the American style pizza to begin with (too much grease) so when Domino's came out with the Artisan Pizza recently, I ate a whole pizza. It's more European style, appears to have less grease sitting on it and has a thin crust. Very good and this is the kind of pizza where I still have to learn portion control and while I'm still learning I'm staying away from Artisan Pizza until later.
I think I have developed a sensitive taste to sugar. Most of the stuff I used to eat before is now WAY to sweet for me. I put down a ripe banana the other day because I found it too sweet - doesn't taste good.0 -

I grew up on Nutella back in Germany. I'm thrilled that it's now available in the US, I requested a chocolate cake with Nutella as icing for my birthday this year. Needless to say, I'm gonna have to put it off for a long time because I don't trust myself.
Now I've seen these little Nutella and Sticks thingies at the Walmart Check Out...........and I'm thinking, it's not a whole jar and I wouldn't be tempted to eat 3000 cals worth of Nutella at once but I have been brave so far.0 -
I have definitely found this. I cannot eat anything fried any more. It makes me sick. I have been avoiding chocolate recently and I had some last week which made me sick to my stomach. I do love the Domino's artisan pizza, but if you look up the calorie content on their website, 1 piece of the artisan pizza has about 1/2 the calories of a regular cheese slice.0

I used to NEED bread everyday i would have it for atleast one meal maybe to it was the one thing i thought i could never be with out no matter how healthy i became then just the other day i realised i hadnt had bread in weeks i hadnt even realised i was so busy finding new healthy tasty things to eat that i had eliminated it without realiseing and now the thought of having to make a boring old sandwich is just like blah0

I adore cheese. I love it anytime and place and any type. I just avoid it now. My dream night would be cheese board with a bottle of wine and some chutneys. I dont buy it and too be honest I cant believe i've gone a whole month with out it. I only eat cottage cheese and philly light now. I hope im reformed lol. I was starting to look like a huge round cheese haha.0

Oh yea it can happen.. and it has happened to me when I first started trying to lose weight. I got too obsessive and cut out all fast food.. and then when I had it, I was sick. I also realized though, how good those foods taste now that I'm not eating them everyday.. and I'm more likely to have them as a treat, then as a go to everyday meal.0

I've gone off fried food. Hubby and I never really ate a lot of it, but I did like fried seafoood, shrimp, in particular. Not so much now. I still crave french fries every couple of months, but I've learned they never taste as good as I think they will. Its been pretty easy, really. I just didn't eat some of this stuff for a while and now it tastes different and not in a good way. Cheese is also something I've managed to cut way down on. For about 6 mos. I ony ate fat free american singles. The first time I had a tiny bit of a decent cheese--it was really, really good, but it sat in my stomach like a rock. Lesson learned.
You CAN train yourself to eat less or none of the highly dense calorie foods. It just takes determination and will power.0 -
I am not sure about turning myself off it ... still love food. I have had addiction to certain foods or just eating in general (comfort eating, thoughtless snacking).
BUT I have succeeded in creating a 'whoa' with the snacking - and enter things into MFP BEFORE eating to check on them.
I think I have dealt with the addiction to Cola and Sugar by cutting them out for a month or 2 (I got rid of the habit). Now, I choose to have them if I want (and I usually dont want, but can and have on my cheat day).0 -
Yup!
Pasta and sauce, supernoodles, oven food.
Tonnes of stuff I used to love but now wont touch.
I find being able to actually taste the salt in stuff now puts me off the most.0 -
I think so! Some of the things i used to love just don't have the same appeal. I kind of think it might be that i now know what is actually in some of that stuff.0

Yes, had a similar response after not having KFC/Popeyes for a while. Stomach told me "Girl, bye!" so I haven't had either in quite a while.0

My husband's idea of pizza.. OHHHH yeah, very easy to turn off from it. He bought a Dominos Extravaganza and just the smell of it made me want to hurl!
I no longer have soda - going on well over 12 years without it. Someone had given me Sprite instead of soda water at a restaurant, and I thought for SURE I was going to be sick.... too damn sweet! UGH!
I love to bake fresh baked goodies, but good luck getting me to actually sit down and have a serving... I will definitely though allow myself to enjoy ONE dessert but budget the low-carb style in it...0 -

Im the same with McDonalds it give me baaaad stomach pains, so i completely avoid it because of that. but ive found lots of things taste too much now that i dont have them. full sugar soft drink is too sweet for me, full cream milk (just a glass by itself) i cannot have a full glass anymore i feel like im drinking fat, and even some foods i have been eating but in less amounts taste not as nice, like red rooster cheesey nuggets, i love them, but last night wen i had them they were just sooooo cheesey.. unfortunately the foods i really binge on are still very attractive to me, but i have found a lot of foods seem to just taste like fat and sugar0 -
When it comes to Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, no. I don't care how long I abstain from eating them, the moment I can get one in my mouth, yum!
On a serious note: yes, I notice I am more sensitive to sodium in foods & taste it easier than I did before.0
