Does anyone know how to bake a potato in the oven? I can do it in the microwave, but I don't know how to do it in the oven. This is a skill I must learn.

Why do you want to go to all that trouble? Next thing you will be wanting to learn how to boil water.0

cutt potato into chunks ,add some butter wrap it up in tin foil bake at 325 till soft ...add what u like once its done ,maybe cheeses, sour cream etc0
-
put it in micro for 5 mins and then just chuck it in the oven for 30 mins without wrapping it in foil and its nice and crispy on the outside......mmmmmm. Or you could wrap them in foil raw and leave them to bake for over an hour in oven or until you want to eat them. I love baked spuds :O)0

set the oven to 400 degrees. clean the potato and poke holes in it then rub with olive oil and freshly ground pepper, salt if thats a part of your diet. wrap in foil and bake about an hour depending on potato size0
-
Wrap it in tin foil stab some holes through it with a knife set at whatever temp you'd like probably 350-450 and I think its like an hour and a half or so depending on the temp.0
-
i just poke holes in it with a fork to release the steam after i wash it and put it in the oven whole with the skin still on with the oven at like 400 degrees for like 40 to 50 minutes or until its tender. you dont even have to put it on a baking sheet, just put it rite on the oven rack0

I love the quickness of baking potatoes in the microwave but love the crispiness of oven baked ones more but it takes sooooo long!!
So, here's my way of getting a bit of both!
microwave potato until cooked then cover in a little olive oil and a sprinkling of salt. Put in the oven (about 180c) for about 5 mins to let the skin crisp up!
YUM!!!0 -
Just whack it in the oven full blast for a while. Simples :flowerforyou:0

According to the Food Network:
Ingredients
1 large russet potato (If it looks like Mr. Potato Head(r), you've got the right one.)
Canola oil to coat
Kosher salt
Directions
Heat oven to 350 degrees and position racks in top and bottom thirds. Wash potato (or potatoes) thoroughly with a stiff brush and cold running water. Dry, then using a standard fork poke 8 to 12 deep holes all over the spud so that moisture can escape during cooking. Place in a bowl and coat lightly with oil. Sprinkle with kosher salt and place potato directly on rack in middle of oven. Place a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch any drippings.
Bake 1 hour or until skin feels crisp but flesh beneath feels soft. Serve by creating a dotted line from end to end with your fork, then crack the spud open by squeezing the ends towards one another. It will pop right open. But watch out, there will be some steam.
NOTE: If you're cooking more than 4 potatoes, you'll need to extend the cooking time by up to 15 minutes.
Sounds like a lot of trouble-I just scrub a potato, wrap in foil, bake at 400 for an hour or until soft depending on the size of the spud. No need to poke holes or anything.0 -

it's not the potato that make you fat it's all the things we put on them!! I set oven on 400, wash potato, rub with olive oil, add sea salt, wrap in foil, bake one hr. squeeze potato with pot holder to check if it's done. add your fav. toppings and enjoy. mircowaved baked potaotes are terrible.0

It's not the potato calories i find hard to stomach...it's the mountain of butter i have to put on it!0

I've been told that your body processes it better i guess?0 -
One of the few foods I prefer in the microwave...I like the chewy skin. And I just put ranch dressing on mine. I skip all that other "loaded" stuff.0
-
Sweet potatoes are nasty, white is the way to go. Don't eat bananas, though.0
