We had a family party yesterday at to which 1 of my 23 cousins said "you look really slimmed down, I think i'm putting on what you're losing" which was awesome t hear, but he's the only one I've heard it from. so i was really excited one minute then totally discouraged the next

Your family loves you no matter what- maybe they feel uncomfortable bringing up weight because that would mean they are insinuating that you used to be fat. I personally don't feel comfortable commenting on people's weight loss specifically, I tell them they look nice or something generic. I'm not sure why... but I'm sure they noticed your weight loss! They were just too embarrassed to draw attention to your previous weight. I know it must feel awful thinking that your hard work is going unnoticed, but I'm sure that's not the case. Just stick with it, you look fantastic!

Tell them you want to hear more accolades. They usually stop after that. Then it becomes saddening.
  • just say thanks and enjoy it :) you look great in your photos anyway!

Just remember... you aren't losing weight and living a healthier lifestyle for anyone else... it's for YOU!!!

So, the compliments are nice, but the way you feel about yourself is what matters the most!

    PS- Congrats!

I have found that if you're anti-social and grumpy all of the time, you don't get invited to those family gatherings. That will save the heartache of only one compliment.
  • I will put it this way...my family is so use to seeing me huge..lol..that now that im slimming down they have to take a second look to make sure its me:) Its just there so USE TO SEEING YOU ONE WAY THAT THEY MUST ADJUST TO YOUR KNEW LOOK or JUST AFRAID TO SAY SOMETHING CAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO HURT YOUR FEELINGS

Yet a compliment is a good thing and it just takes some time to get use to it...GOOD JOB ON YOUR WEIGHT LOST AND KEEP IT UP:)

    You could try "Thanks!"

    It's working for me.

I find it hard to accept them as well. I try smiling and just saying thank you.
