Hello All,

I'm sort of a newbie her at MFP. I made my account over the summer, but never really felt like using the social features. I lost like twenty pounds, but once I went back to college, I gained it all back.:grumble: Our cafeteria does not have much for someone trying to eat healthy besides wilted spinach greens......

I'm looking forward to starting over and becoming a healthier person. It's going to be a pretty long journey considering that to be a healthy weight I need to divide my current weight by 2.

hard to believe you don't like wilted spinach greens :)

its unlikely the college cafe is going to help you much. try to find a way to prepare your own meals as often as possible. that's really the best way of reducing carbs and increasing protein...and eating healthier.

    good luck to you.

I can relate to the cafeteria woes: mine was delicious but super lacking in "healthy" fare. Stick to portion control, training yourself to eat more slowly (which can be a reaaaaaal lifesaver) and drinking 1-2 cups of water about 20 mins before mealtime!!!

Good luck, going back to school and having limited food options is going to be a challenge, but try to keep your fresh fruits, veggies and snacks in an insulated bag---they make lots of them that look really fashionable now. I have one that I can put my "purse essentials" in the side pocket and use that bag as my purse. No matter what try to have at least 100 calorie healthy food every 2.5 hours until you can do 6 small meals a day. Get creative with your food. Will the school cafeteria let you use their microwave??? Try the Minute brown rice individual cups with spray butter and some pre-prepared grilled chicken in 3 oz serving sizes, really yummy for lunch and portable. The chicken can be stored in your cooler bag. Fresh spinach, low fat snack cheese, yogurt, granola, etc.
Make a decision that school is not going to prevent you from being healthy and see how you can make it work. It's a challenge, but it can be done....don't get down on yourself if you slip, just keep working on making it work. If you can do 5-6 small meals a day you will keep you metabolism going strong.

Best Wishes from Southern California!!! I started at 246 on Oct. 1st and am down by over 8 pds in just 3 weeks, my goal is 200 or less by Jan. 21st for a company party.
