Has anyone had firsthand experience taking iodine for thyroid? Success or no difference in weight loss?
( I was tested and have a slightly low thyroid)
I would love to get some advice and hear some personal stories on this subject.

Thanks! Cheers!

I met a lady that swears by kelp
  • I had a naturopath recommend a product called Idomere by Standvard process which is an iodine supplement. I have been taking it and I wont say weight drops off or anything, but it does seem to make a difference that if you work at it, it comes off easier.

    kelp here too
it also helps to increase energy levels so that also helps with the weight loss
I would be taking it now but it could interfere with the anticoagulation therapy I am on
I also used to take flax seed oil and can no longer take that at the moment :)

Not knowing what your actual numbers are I can't say exactly. I take synthroid as my thyroid is hypoactive (under-active) my numbers went from 5.5 (not so hot) to 1.78 which is good. I was at 3.4 prior to becoming pregnant, but my number spiked because my body chemistry changed.

I'm not sure how the iodine effects the thyroid function, but I can tell you that taking the synthroid has helped very much with the fatigue that I didn't even realize I was feeling due to the thyroid inactivity. I initially didn't want to take the pills because I was still losing weight consistantly with proper diet & exercise, however I got pregnant, and it's not safe for the fetus if the mother has bad thyroid numbers.

I definitely think researching your options is a good idea, and gaging the way that you personally feel after taking any kind of suppliment versus prior will definitely help if you try this option.

I personally have had great success in leveling out my thyroid levels using the traditional western medicine route.

yeah, kelp is iodine rich. Thyroid needs iodine to work properly.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to continue to take my kelp and see how things go.
