Are proteins beneficial to weight loss in your opinion/experience?

Protein digests slowly so it helps keep you fuller for longer, which means you eat less. It also helps repair your muscles after lifting weights. So yes, it is beneficial when trying to lose weight.

It depends. Protein from egg, chicken, fish nuts and whey are the best. Whey is superior to all other proteins.
By having whey protein the very first thing in the morning, you are helping to stabilize blood sugar levels, stabilizing insulin. This can have the effect of dramatically reducing sugar cravings throughout the entire day.
  • NoA...I have a friend who competes in fitness pageants and eats tilapia and chicken breasts like they are ice cream. COLD and out of a baggie LMAO. It's odd looking and her gas can clear out a room but she swears it's what keeps her on track.

Since I can NOT do chicken breast in a baggie personally lol, are protein shakes a reasonable exchange do you think?

I have been thinking about that for a while, just never actually have done the research. I would rather hear from experiences.

    Anyone with protein shake experience?
  • Hey thanks, you read my mind :)

It also has a ton more benefits besides weight management but you asked for weight loss. I have 3 protein shakes a day using 2 scoops each time. Everyone should be taking whey protein. You should be consuming 1/2 to 1 gram of protein per pound of your body weight. However, watch out for artificial sweeteners (suclarose/splenda and aspartame). Try to get a whey protein powder with stevia.

  • I plan on loosing useless weight and then working on muscle mass gain. OR would you recommend doing it at the same time?

    Suggestions?

You can do it the same time. Make sure you do some kind of cardio every other day and weight training the other days. Try to eat lots of veggies and good fats with the whey protein. Also, vitamins and Omega 3-6 are very helpful when losing weight.

I had a similar doubt when I started 4 months back. I started with adding Whey Protein in my diet (starting with protein shake first thing in the morning) and eating more proteins than carbs.

It has had dramatic effect. I lost about 24 pounds in 4 months and its a good feeling!

    I would recommend proteins asap!

I just think that the recommended protein level on this website when you do the guided goals is exceptionally low. When I signed up here, the first thing I did was change the macros. I eat 45% protein, 35% carbs, 20% fat. If I have more carbs than protein, I tend to overeat and thus don't lose anything.

I am a 40 - 30 - 30 kind of person. You can reset your nutrient 'goals' on here, so my pie chart goals are 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat. That makes it soooo easy to see what I need to add a bit more of, when dinner rolls around.

I was a carb heavy vegetarian for years and was overweight and tired. I got over my squimishness about eating meat, start my day with a whey protein shake and my life is dramatically better. I have alot more energy, have lost 6 pounds and 3 inches off my waist (why my waist only, I have no idea...) Also, and this may be unrelated, I am way more full and my carb cravings are pretty much gone. No more 3pm Goldfish cracker binges. ; 0

    This works for me...

Let me know what works for you - I am always open to new ideas...
