Yes. Dry fry the meat - drain off all the resulting fat on paper kitchen towel. Put to one side. Dry fry the onions and garlic. Put the drained of fat meat back into the pan and fry for a bit longer, drain off any fat is there is some more. Add a tinned of chopped tomatoes. Add the sliced mushrooms, maybe some tomato puree if you like it really tomatoey and some water. Add some oregano. Salt and pepper. Let it bubble away for a while. add some more water if you like. Add some vegetable buillon powder if you like but I find this interferes with the flavour. To make it healthy I have dropped the chicken stock cube I used to put in it as it is quite salty and fatty.
I would say I let this bubble very gently on the hob for about 45 minutes but 30 will do it.
When boiling the pasta don't add oil to the water as some people do. Portion size is your main enemy with this.0 -
I often make mine with Turkey Mince :flowerforyou:0

I make mine with quorn or chicken mince sometimes. I usually fry off an onion and garlic then add the mince and a tin of chopped tomatoes and a carton of passata and some herbs and spices and some sliced mushrooms then I put it in the slow cooker for a couple of hours.
And I also call it spag bog too!! lol0 -
Hi
I now make my Spag Bol and Chilli with Quorn mince. A lot of people believe this to be the work of satan however, its far lower in fat than mince! I usually cook it in my frying pan with my onions and a beef oxo cube crumbled in before adding my sauce. In both these dishes the sauce is quite powerful so you would be hard pushed to know its quorn mince other than no chewy bits like in mince!!!

I usually just fry it till its brown with some onions...0 -
I would say if your not adding any oil and using lean minced beef you can't go wrong. Add loads of veggies, mushrooms, peppers etc to bulk it out. Portion control is the key here x0
