Do you have to be obsessive to lose weight?

Hi I am quite new to this sight and in my 1st week lost 2 kg so I am really pleased, it wasn't easy and I have been very obsesssed about it, thinking about it all the time and spending loads of time on this site, exercising and watching what I eat, which is great and it worked! But the thing that worries me is how is that behaviour sustainable longterm? Maybe it is just me and I am sure I have behaved the same way with diets and I suppose I can see the pattern and don't want this to be like another diet that I fail at. When I signed up I said that I would do 30 mins of exercise 3 times a week and I have exercises everyday except one in the last 12 days. I don't know really what I am asking I am just nervous that I am setting myself up to fail, doing too much to begin with because I am so motivated but afraid that I won't beable to improve on what I am doing right now. So sorry for the moaning just feeling worried about the whole thing, normally I would have just been going over this in my head and then it would have turned into a reason for me to quit so I am getting it out there to try and get over this hurdle.
Thanks for listening.

My tip would be to find a way of exercising that you enjoy. I have been going to aquafit for a few weeks and I keep going mostly because I enjoy it rather than because it's part of my weight loss plan.
Be realistic about how often and for how long you can exercise in the long term. I don't have much time because of work and family so my goal is twice a week and I know that's achieveable. I might lose weight quicker if I exercised more but I know I would never keep it up once I reach my target weight.
    Bonne chance!
  • I don't think you have to be obsessive to loose weight, I think it depends how you see your weight loss, for me being strict for a few months works, but a year after that I've started to gain the pounds again. I started being very strict but over the past month I am finding it unsustainable so I am scaling back and making changes where I can, as this is something I have to do for the rest of my life. I am trying to reduce rather than eliminate and I feel that it works, I will keep doing this as much as I can, that's not to say I won't cheat sometimes, but I like to plan for that. Also, I have found I get into a routine with exercise, now its not something I force myself to do but something that I just do as it's now part of my life.

Sticking to strict routine works for some, but not for me, I may not loose as fast but I'm still doing it. You have to work out what is best for you, no one looses weight in the same way.
