  • Yeah.. I try to climb the 3 flights of stairs at work. Every now and then I'll get up and do some jumping jacks.. It's mostly for an energy boost and to get some blood pumping. I get very bored sitting at my desk and often sleepy.. :)

Any activity is better than no activity. I was reading an article that said on avg there are 10 mins of commercials in a 30 min show. So if you watch an hour... you get my drift. Good luck and have fun!

I agree that any activity is better than none but from what I've read, for an effective work out, you need to get your heart rate up to a certain level (can't remember exactly to what though) and keep it there for at least 20 min. so you should try and add some longer work outs at least 3 times a week if you can.

It's generally acknowledged that you need to do 20-30 continuous minutes of cardio that keeps your heart rate between 50 & 85% of your maximum heart rate. In addition to that, any movement and exercise you perform for any length of time, is going to be helpful. The more movement, the better!

Here's a chart that can give you an idea of what your working heart rate should be:

    http://www.jackis.com/about/heartrate-system

Your resting heart rate is determined by taking your heart rate per minute on 3 consecutive mornings before you get up and calculating the average, e.g., 60 + 59 + 61 = 180, then 180/ 3 = 60

This is another heart rate chart with additional information to help you determine how hard to need to work to accomplish various goals, e.g., weight loss, endurance, etc. : http://www.heart.com/heart-rate-chart.html
