I doubt thats high, only because you said you are doing step aerobics!!! That gets your heart beat going!! I bet if you had a HRM that number would be low compared to the HRM

Did you use a HRM or did you use MFP's calculations? It is possible to burn that much. On some exercises I burn 10 calories a minute, but it's hard to do. I've personally found that MFP's calculations are too generous for me. My HRM is usually about 30% less than what MFP gives me. The displays on the gym machines are even worse, sometimes nearly 100% off. For example, the arc trainer will tell me I've burned 1071 calories, and my heart rate monitor will say 551, about half.

On a cross trainer, stepper or bike I average 100 cal burn for ten minutes so absolutley realistic

In this link it has down as 115 but of course it depends on your weight etc.

    So yeah about right.

I burn 1000 calories in about 75 minutes of interval cardio (walking/running). I weight nearly 300 lbs though.

It's definitely doable, but it is a pretty high burn. You may want to consider investing in a heart rate monitor that tracks calories burned. It's still an estimate but it tends to be more accurate.

When I was heavier I could burn over 800 calories in a 60 minute step class on a 10 - 12 inch step per my hrm, but my heart rate would peak at just over 200 and I would average well over 160 for the 60 minutes.
  • That's great then ! It's the first time u have used my step properly and it really did get the heart rate up! Thanks for all the replies

Sounds right. When I'm working really hard I burn about 10 calories a minute.
