I need help; I am a Zumba freak... I love it but I now need to shake it up and try something new. I have been contemplating taking a spinning class but have never done it. Can someone please fill me in? Do you love it, hate it, why, why not? Do you see results, do you feel the results… Help me please

I personally love my spinning classes, you can work at your own pace but if you push hard you can burn at least 500 + calories.. or so I am told. From personal experience, in a 60 min session I have burnt 600 + calories, so I think it's a great cardio exercise. One down side is that your butt will be SORE for a couple of days after because of the bicycle seat, but if you sit on the back of the seat you'll be fine. Plus the more you do these classes the less sore you will be...so go for it and go all out!!0

I did P90X, then Insanity, and by then it was August and hotter than Hades in my house, so I decided to mix it up at the gym. I started Spinning 2x a week and I love it. There are many things I like about it: First, it is a great workout. In 45 minutes, I can burn as many as 600 calories (that's unusual, it's usually between 400-500). Second, as I've become a regular, I like the comardarie of the class. Third, my legs and rear look fantastic. Now, I've mixed it up with Insanity workouts, Jillian Michaels workouts, Spin 2x/week, and cardio machines at the gym. Be sure that you come a little early to your first class and tell the instructor that it's your first time, as the instructor will make sure you set your bike up properly. Proper set up is a little taller than you might expect. If you become a regular, get shoes with clips. (I'm a cyclist as well, so I have shoes that clip both to my bike and to my Spin bike). The clips enable you to pull up more and use your hamstrings a bit more than you do with just the cages. It's a great workout. I highly recommend it.0

i only tried it once, and the bike seat intimidated me (my butt hurt for 3 days after!!). so, when i feel brave enough to face that seat again, i'll give it another go, haha. the class itself is interesting though!0

Like it a lot. Good burn, sore butt. I have seen that some people who come often use a gel cover for their seat- they bring it and take it with them and remember plenty of water. Have a good time!0

Love it! I’ve been doing it every Saturday for 6 months and 3 weeks ago I started doing it 3x a week and yea, I think my butt does look nicer!
Your pelvic bone will hurt after the first time but you'll be fine afterwards. I love the push, push push mentality rather than the monotonous self-motivation required on a treadmill or elliptical and adore bopping along to great music w/o having to be coordinated.0 -
Spinning is great. Don't be scared-give it a try. I let fear keep me from the class for a long time. You set your own pace and resistance-it is your workout. Plus if you have a good instructor you can ask them to help you get your bike set up the first time. Someone said your butt hurts. It is true, you can buy a pad for the seat, or after about a week and a half your butt will start getting accustom to the seat. Either way, give it a try!!0

I love Zumba and I love Spinning!!!
Don't get me wrong... IT SUCKS!!!!! At least until you get the hang of it, then it just sucks first day back after the weekend lol!! I have felt my layer of fat in my midsection shrink as well as helped tighten my core... I am on a 3 day spin, 2 day weight, and as many Zumba sessions as I can get to!!0 -
I just started spin class this month or last month and I'm loving it! I mountain bike on the weekend, so taking spin classes during the week really boost my stamina and strength when it comes to the weekend biking. It's tough but with spinning you can go at your own pace. You have the control on the toughness. Yes I do see the results. My body is more toned up. I don't know if it's from spin class alone since I do other work outs too. But it never hurts to try. Give it a try.0

Spinning is great and a high energy workout. If you are new to it be sure to wear bike shorts (I still wear my bike shorts for comfort and have been doing for years). I will burn a good 300 calories in a 30 minute workout when I am short on time (usually before work in the morning) Plus you will want to drink lots of water. But, it sure is a great way to burn a lot of calories and have some fun. I like to do 2-3 times a week plus the eliptical. The gym I am at now does not have classes but I am going to add Zumba soon (bought the dvd's). Good luck and have fun!!0

I agree (as usual) with Lindalee's comments. Her butt looks better.....(Sorry, couldnt refuse!) Really though, she's right on. I've been a regular for about 2 yrs now and have built a lot of friendships from it as well as the workout. Expect it to take time to get used to, and besides the shoes invest $30 in padded bike shorts - you'll be glad you did! And if you can try different instructors as they all have their own 'spin' on music, style, etc. I've found a huge range from 300 to 700 cal's burned in a 45 min class depending on which instructor. I had a first-timer sit by me on Fri - she's a marothon runner and wanted to try something new. At the end she said that the marathon she ran last weekend felt like a walk in the park after that spin class - No kidding!0

Spinning kicks your butt and you burn crazy calories really fast. Make sure you bring a towel because you will be dripping in sweat!0

And my butt is looking fine from the classes!0
