New Scale Surprise!

I bought a new scale yesterday: a Weight Watchers digital scale with all the bells and whistles (bone mass, body fat percentage, lean body weight, you name it). Anyway, I was using an old fashioned scale that I knew was off. The old scale read that I was 142 pounds. This means that I've lost about 15 pounds since starting MFP in June 2011. Well to my surprise, I stepped on the new scale this morning and it read that I'm 148.8. The good thing is my body fat percentage was way less than I thought. So I guess that's not too bad. I calculated that my body fat percentage was 29% but the new scale read that it's 26%. Well needless to say, what should I do? Should I start over on MFP and record the weight from the new scale? or Should I continue with the old scale information?

Scales vary, as we all know. I'd log the weight from the new scale, with a note to yourself in your food diary about the scale change, and then just keep going.

I need a new scale as I am using a very old style one and I know its off, but I do like what it says so afraid to get a new digital one. I know I need to just bite the bullet and buy a new one some day.

I had the same issue when I changed over to a more accurate scale.. It sucks, but you kind of have to go with the more accurate number. I updated my numbers right away to motivate me to lose the weight difference. It's a mental setback, but the good news is that you DID actually lose the 15 lbs! Celebrate your victory & move forward, knowing that you can now track your BF% as well as your weight. I use that feature on mine(WW scale) a lot to determine how much of what I lose/gain is fat vs.lean mass. Good luck!:flowerforyou:

I would go with the new scale. The great thing is maybe you have built more muscle mass and that is why the weight is a little more than the other scale but also your body fat is lower so that's a good thing! :)

Go with the new...it will be far more accurate than your old one.
  • Thanks for your opinions. I do agree that I actually did lose the weight, I just need to go back and addjust my original weight by five pounds. Again thanks so much!
