Does anyone have any input on what heart rate monitor's are the best, and are the more expensive one's better than the cheaper one's?

There are some that have built in features that track calories. Mine was a low end polar HRM and it only tracks time of workout and average heart rate. I use websites to calculate my total calorie burn.

The Polar models (like an F7) all track calories to the best of my knowledge. Some models can be expensive but others are reasonable. Best place to look and read reviews and features is amazon.com

More expensive ones tend to be more accurate and have more features than inexpensive ones. Really cheap ones won't have a chest strap or offer calories burned, average heart rate, etc. I just bought a Polar (probably the most popular brand) FT7 and it was a bit pricey - about $75 on Amazon - but I love it. It tracks calories, time, average heart rate, max heart rate and on and on and on. It also keeps your past workouts in memory so you can refer to them. I have found it to be very accurate and the elliptical at the gym even reads the transmitter and displays the heart rate without holding those metal monitors!
  • I've always heard that Polar is best, so thats what I bought. I love it. Its beyond motivational to see how many calories I'm burning!
  • I have one that I got pretty cheap. It's this one here: http://www.walmart.com/ip/S7-HR-Monitor/10719753
It has an accurate reading for heart rate. It has a calorie tracker but I'm not sure how accurate it is cause I don't have anything to compare it to. The only thing it asks for is your age and gender and I feel like it should need to know your weight... I dunno, it works well enough for me. :D

I forget the model number for the strap, but this is the watch (it's a couple of years old): http://www.getyouinshape.com/Products/Heart_Rate_Monitors_PolarF2black.html

I have a bowflex xt precision HRM from big 5 . for 30.00 on clearance. It hs all the same features as thr polar FT7. It works very well.
Polar is probably the best known quality brand, but I don't think you have to pay alot to get a good HRM.

    Go on Amazon.com and look.
Also check out reviews of ones you are thinking of buying.
  • I use a heart rate monitor app that i have downloaded on my phone.

Oh... and some have the easy-to-change battery, while others have to be sent to polar to have them replace it.

I'm waiting for the MotoACTV to come out on November 6th.

If you're interested in a Polar, check their website and use the Compare Products function. Then you'll know which have user replaceable batteries and all the features of each one.

I also researched quite extensively on Amazon before making a purchase. Good luck with your search and purchase!
