HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU?

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to know from those who have lost around the 90 pound mark, how long did it/should it take?

See I'm one of those people who used to be very thin, and now I'm at 240 pounds (109kg), and feel like it's
just a fantasy that I'll ever be thin again.

If I knew approx how long it will take me, I think it would be a great motivator.

I'm currently on 1300 calories per day, aiming to lose 2 pounds a week. (Which, in my first week, I have)

I'm at 66 lbs lost - not quite 90 - and it's taken me about 10 months. I feel I could have lost more in that amount of time, but the way I'm going about it, I feel like it will be lbs lost forever - a true lifestyle change.

110 pounds lost in 13 months
  • It's taken me four years to go from 147 to 240 pounds.

I'm not *stressed* about how long it is going to take, because this isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle overhaul, but was just curioius :)

I'm at 76lbs lost and starting Aug 8, 2010. The last 10lbs will probably take me til after Christmas, they are BRUTAL hard (UGH!) but so worth it.

I liked setting LOTS of mini-goals to keep me motivated and not make me feel like it was going to take forever. Those helped me really focus on the short term instead of something that was going to take OVER A YEAR (it felt really long). But the short term goals I got those every month or two and that I could handle.

Good luck! You can totally do this!!!

    Edit: I started at 242lbs and now I'm at 166lbs (5'7")

It will take over an year if you do it without fail. As you said - you are not worried abt the time as its a lifestyle change - Its a good thing and you are on Right track. I am on a mission of losing 66 lbs - have just started sometime back.

My goal is to lose 1 kg each week - that makes it look simpler and possible. You can set such short goals for yourself and you will feel good when you achieve these :) I just achieved mine in the first week :)

Best of Luck !! See you along :)

Yes, this is great advice, I've done the same thing. Short-term goals help a lot.
I gained weight steadily my whole life, about 5-7 lb a year for over 20 years (since I hit puberty), no matter what I tried. I was finally diagnosed with a metabolic disorder in mid-March 2011, and got on a specialized diet for that. So it's been a little over 7 months. 42 lb lost, and I've dropped from size 26 to 20. My goal is 1-2 lb per week, and I'm averaging 1.3. A little less than I'd planned, but I'm not too worried as long as it keeps dropping. I set an "ultimate goal" for myself of losing 150 lb by Christmas 2012. Then I just divided that up to create my mini-goals. I also included things like "size 18 by Christmas 2011," and "able to wear my sweatshirts from college by Sept 2012," goals that don't involve scale weight, just to mix it up a little.

    Good luck to you!

A kilo a week? How are you going with that so far?

Well - I am controlling my intake to less than 1200 calories and doing 60 - 90 mins cardio everyday. Its been 1 week and i list 0.8 kg - so i hope this week it will be better. Lets see :)

Another brief bit of advice: you're female, which means your hormones fluctuate on a monthly basis. Hormones affect your water retention and your fat metabolism. So I try never to stress about anything unless it has been an entire month. Don't freak out about one week where you lose little or nothing: just hang in there, and you may show a 2 or 3 kg loss the next week. Average it out over the course of the month, that gives you a more realistic idea of how you're really doing. That'll help keep you sane.
