Like a soreness type of pain I'm assuming? And if so, yes I do usually the first cardio workout of my week I get a real tough burning sensation in the beginning of my session. It does get better as you continue to run or walk so just push through it!

    Ice is your friend afterwards.

If it persists for an extended period of time, check with a doc.

Are you stretching enough before and after running? Which part is hurting? Your achilles in the back? Deltoids in the inside of your foot, or the outside of your ankle? Any swelling? Are you wearing proper shoes? How about your feet - - are your arches high? Low?

All those things can make a difference in what is going on with your ankles. If there's swelling, elevate and ice them after a run. Make sure you're wearing proper running shoes with the proper support for your arches - and proper size (amazing how 1/2 a size difference can really hurt/improve your feet). If you don't stretch enough, you can strain your upper leg muscles which support your lower leg/ankle muscles.

Also, are you resting them? If you injur yourself and keep running on an injury, your injury will not go away - it will just get worse adn worse. So don't ignore the pain and run through it. Find the source of the pain, take care of it and then you can continue to run, pain free.

(I ran through an achilles injury and now many achilles issues I never would have had if I had only not been so stubborn). Good luck!

I used to have knee, back and occasional ankle pain; but since I moved to using Vibram Five Fingers ( http://goo.gl/qVFP8 ), the only thing that hurts when I jog are my lungs and my legs.

I was very skeptical that I could run in them, but I'm really glad I gave them a shot.

I have very, high arches too and my ankles 'killed' me when I first started exercising just by walking on an incline. I had to wein myself into it slowly after the first few days and lower the incline to almost zero. It has gotten better with time and practise, but I'm still careful and if it starts hurting, I slow down. I can jog for a short while now without any pain. HOpe this helps.

I saw a orthopedic specialist who fitted me for arch supports that running shoes for an incline couldn't even start supporting (I have high arches too). It's worth looking into if the pain gets worse or doesn't diminish. :flowerforyou:

I took this route first as well...but it didn't work for me at all (although I ended up spending a bunch of money trying it out).

Some would argue that running shoes and additional support lead to weakened arches and foot muscles, although I'm not a doctor, and haven't read all the research (I only know what has worked with me after trying several different options).
