Does anyone have a good exercise routine that has been working for them? I just recently got back into a gym, and to be honest, I have NO idea what to do, other than walk/run on the treadmill. Any suggestions?

I use my treadmill as well..sometimes I jog, and sometimes I walk....I try to use different inclines and speeds to keep my body guessing...and it keeps me from getting bored with it....good luck!

Congrats on getting back in the gym!!!:flowerforyou: I'd start out slow, 20-30 min on whatever machines you like (I prefer low impact like the elliptical, and if your gym has it, the new Treadclimber is AWESOME!!!) and a couple sets of crunches and of course, stretching! Then as you work your way up keep adding on minutes/speed/etc. Make sure to mix it up so you don't get bored-if your gym has classes like yoga, kickboxing, zumba, etc.-take a few! It mixes up your routine and helps avoid plateuing (sp?). Also swimming is really great if you have access to a pool. You'd be surpised how many calories you burn doing yoga!! Someone here posted the link below to this handy-dandy calorie burner calculator, it even has mopping and intercourse on there!! Good luck!!!!

I do a lot of classes, bc I get bored easily. Also, I keep a fitness notebook of exercise plans from Shape magazine. You can also get these from shapemag.com.
Its a 3 ring binder with those clear sheet protectors. When I find a good workout, I pop it in.
Then I do a specific toning (strength) workout 3x/week for 3 weeks or a month. Then I change and do another one.
On my other 2-3 days I will do a cardio or spin or circuit class.

    Hope this helps!

I'm all videos here too, hehe. Can't afford the gym. Except I'm into yoga.

If there's a yoga class, I definitely recommend that. Especially because you're doing mostly leg-work for cardio, yoga will balance that out and help out with the arms and targeting the core also. If you want both yoga and cardio, go for power yoga.

Ahh, yes I love Shape mag! REALLY good workouts, especially this last one! I love the "Do Anywhere Intervals" and the "Elliptical Refresher"...such a nice change and keeps the boredom away!!

That's a great idea! I have old Fitness magazines from two years ago that I used to read for inspiration (the success stories), I hadn't thought about clipping the routines and cycling through them - but that would be perfect for changing up my routine. Thank you for sharing!

I also take a lot of different classes at the gym because I can only go during lunchtime, and they have different ones each day. Talk to the instructors, don't be bashful, they want you to workout with them! I like to jump right in to things, so I just started going to whatever class was going on that day - and some were advanced, and some were easy - but they were all fun, and I got to meet new people too.

Whatever you decide to do - just go! Getting to the gym is half the battle. If you can find or make a new buddy to talk with while you're working out - that's really great too.

Good luck, and happy gym going!
