Best Combination of Exercise Classes?

Options
Hi guys,

I have, up until recently, been working out with a personal trainer at the gym doing a mixture of cardio workouts and resistance training. He has moved on to a new job and I don't really want to be forking out expensive one-on-one fees any more so have decided to go it alone. Having given it a go just in the gym on my own, I really don't think it's for me so want to put together a programme of exercise classes to go to instead but I'm not sure what the best combination is.

Of course I want to continue to lose weight - I wouldn't be here if I didn't - but I am also keen to continue to tone up and build muscle mass. My gym runs all the usual classes and I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to which classes to pick per week for the best combinations of workouts?

Thanks :)

I have my last session with my trainer on Friday. We worked out a plan last week. Monday upper body resistance and cardio, Tuesday cardio, Wednesday whole body resistance( I use the express system at my local gym, it is a series of machines that works every muscle group. ) and cardio, Thursday cardio, Friday lower body and cardio. Make sure to do upper body one day, lower body one day and total body one day and cardio everyday. The aerobics classes you pick are great for cardio.

Pick classes that are will have fun in. That way your stick to it. Most classes work different mucsle groups so you cant really go wrong. Throw a yoga in there once a week to strech out and you should be good

Myself I don't go to a gym...well not at least outside my house. I have one in my home and then I use videos like Tae Bo or 30DS and also walk/run outside. I do have a friend that takes Zumba, Boot Camp, and Spinning classes and she loves them. Hope this helps.

I try them all, and mix them up, try zumba, spinning, strength training, they have all worked for me, even yoga or pilates! We also have piloxing here, not sure if you have that at your gym. My advice take advantage of all the classes!!! They really work!

Try them all and go from there, you may be surprised at what you like and don't like. I personally do Zumba and Yoga at the moment and I love them but I do plan on trying some of their other classes in the future.

Do the ones that you find FUN otherwise you just won't do it.
You already know all the strength stuff if he taught you - no need to pay someone to watch you do it anymore.
Make youreself a list of reps to do --- then pick some cardio class.

My personal favorite is zumba --- it isn't even like exercise to me... I got at least 5x a week.

I dislike strength -- but I take some classes that are mix of cardio/strenght -- kickboxing is great!
Not sure which gym you have or what they offer -- but try them all -you'll be suprised.

AND try the same class wtih different teachers --- sometimes it is like night and day.
I have 2 Zumba teacher I cannot stand and avoid those classes -- I'm glad I tried it with other teachers as I love the other 7 teachers. I did not think I would like a class called "Soul Grooves" -- but its even better than Zumba (but only with 1 of the 3 teachers)

Classes can be fantastic fun! I do Body Pump, Body Combat, Studio Cycling and a bootcamp/circuits style class. They are great for socialising and making friends, i find that working out amongst others pushes me and also it leaves you accountable (people DO notice if your not there :) )

I say go for it. Just enjoy what your doing - your more likely to stick at it that way!
