I have decided to do the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer (Boston May 19 - 20). I have to raise $1800.00 to be able to walk!! Anyone have any ideas how to go about doing that? Also, the walk is 39 miles (26 miles one day and 13 miles the next). How do you train for something like that?

I did the Breast Cancer 3-Day a few years ago (60 miles over 3 days) They didn't include a training plan when you signed up?
I used a training plan provided to me by the Breast Cancer 3-Day. It was shorter walks during the week, with longer walks on the weekends. You just build up the mileage every week until you are close to the highest mileage goal. :)

    Just start.

Talk to friends and coworkers. Everyone loves to be hit up for charities.

For the donations part - you can set up a website and have people donate to you through that.
    gofundme.com is a popular one.
Ask your MFP Friends, you FB Friends, along with regular friends, family, & co-workers..

Start asking your friends and family.

I'm running a marathon in May to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project, and because they were not an affiliated charity with the marathon, I have to do everything myself. They set up the website for donations though, but I have to do everything else. I'd go the website and see what you can find out.
  • Hoop ... thanks ... they didn't send me anything! Maybe it's on it's way but I feel like I should start getting ready right away since I am not exactly "in shape"! :) thanks for your help! :)

A friend of mine just participated in the 3-Day Walk For The Cure in Atlanta this past weekend. In addition to asking for donations via e-mail, phone calls, Facebook, etc. she also went to area business and asked for donations. Her biggest fundraiser, however, was a pub-crawl she organized with several bars downtown. One Saturday night she brought in hundreds of customers to several bars and she made a cut of everyone's bar tabs.
