I'm here to gain weight!

Hey Everyone!
I stumbled across this site purely by chance a few days ago, and it is exactly what I have been looking for. I've been meaning to create a food diary for a while, but one that would track my calories without me having to manually check all my food labels and work it out, so MFP is excellent for that!
I've just spent the last hour or so reading through the forums, especially success stories and really, you are all truly awesome. It's really made my day that so many people are working hard to meet their goals, when a lot of the time, I simply hear excuses.
Most of the posts in the success stories section seem to be about losing weight, my goal is the opposite, I'm here to put weight on.
I'm a 20 year old Law student from the UK.
I'm 5ft11 and come in at a rather light 9stone 5lbs, or for the US users, 133 pounds.
This has purely been due to poor eating habits, especially when moving to university - no longer are my meals cooked by mum.
My goal is to hit 12stone - 168 pounds, to do this, I want to put on a pound a week, which, according to MFP requires me to eat 2698 calories a day. I have a feeling this is a little low, but will aim to hit this target and see if the weight starts adding up, if not, I'll up it to 3000 calories.
My mum is a chef, so I come from a family of good food, I just need to eat more, and regularly.
Anyway, looking forward to chatting with you all soon (I've not quite sussed on this website fully, but I'll get there).

Good luck putting on weight. Just make sure it is the right kind. Simply gaining weight is not healthy. At 20, I am sure the weight will eventually come in unhealthy ways. I know when I was 20, I thought I would always be thin. Then, marriage and poor choices of exercise and food put the pounds on.
Good to log your food, but will be equally important to keep track of where the weight goes.0 -
Most of us on here will mortgage a child to have your problem....lol. Increasing calories will result in weight gain, but it is also important to exercise. You don't just want to gain fat, and muscle is heavier.
I am most impressed that you are a 20yo law student though....Good Luck.0 -
It is great to have you here for your goal! I think it is really cool that you are trying to put on the weight instead of losing it. I think it is refreshing to have something go the other way
Feel free to add me as a friend if you would like!0 -
French bread and brie worked well for me. Ice cream too. Welcome, and best of luck. It's a great site for seeing what works and what doesn't with diet.0

Welcome and my God you must be skinny!!! Totally get where you are coming from and actually it nice to have someone dealing with the opposite problem I used to date a tall skinny guy many years ago who got into the gym as well as attending to his diet. He built bulk without fat which is what you should aim for. I have sent you a friend request!0

Welcome! You might want to up your calorie count - it is my understanding you need 3500 cals per day just to gain a pound. But like the others say, do it with the right foods, etc. so you stay healthy. Good luck with your studies - most impressive!0

Wow, thanks for the quick replies.
My plan is to 'clean bulk', so lots of good carbs - wholemeal pasta, spuds, brown rice. Lean meats - chicken breast, turkey breast, fish. Plenty of fruit and veg and the odd red meat for a treat.
A lot of my calories comes from breakfast which is usually a fairly big portion of oats and whole milk, 3 scrambled egg and two pieces of wholemeal toast. Then it's just about spacing throughout the day so I'm not hungry.
I used to workout and play football, so once I've nailed the food, I'll get back in the gym.
Despite wanting to go the other way and add weight, I think my goal is the same as many of you, to feel good about my body, have a physique I'm proud of and to be healthy, what more is there.0 -
I think it's refreshing to find more people who are using MFP not just for weight loss, but for other healthy reasons. There's plenty of useful tools on MFP for everyone and their individual goals.
I found MFP through looking for a food diary tool as well, as I'd never gotten into the habit of doing so. I tried a few sites out before sticking with MFP as I really love the user database of food entries -- extremely helpful as I don't always eat packaged food with handy dandy nutrition labels on them, lol. I still find keeping a diary a bit tedious, but MFP definitely helps to keep it at bay.
Welcome and good luck with your goals!0 -
Can anyone tell me what NSV means? I keep seeing it mentioned.
I'm also about to cook a steak with broccoli and mash.0 -

Non Scale Victory. When you are getting your diet and exercise in place, but the scale doesn't show it. Maybe it is simply not having dessert at that family dinner on Sunday.0
