Does anyone have a good home made Haluski Recipe? I am looking for one with a dough ball not with store bought noodles.

Oh boy do I miss this! I'm low-carb now, but I'm also pure-blooded Polish, so this was a staple for me growing up! I've seen recipes that include baking soda or powder in the dumplings, but I don't use it. This simple recipe was passed down to me from my grandfather (last name Wojciak, so this stuff is legit! lol). You can also add onions in with the cabbage if you like, but we did not.
Dumplings:
2.5 cups flour
5 whole eggs
A few tablespoons of water (to make dough easy to work with)
salt and pepper (to liking)
Rest:
One head shredded green cabbage
1/4 lb. butter (one stick)
1.5 T garlic powder (or fresh chopped garlic)
Salt (to taste)
Pepper (to taste)
Prepare dumpling dough and drop my teaspoonfulls into boiling water until they float. Remove them and place into a colander about the sink to let drain.
In large skillet, melt butter and add garlic (if using fresh). Add in cabbage, salt, pepper and garlic powder (if using powder) and sautee cabbage until it begins to reduce in volume. Add in dumplings and sautee the mixture for 20-30 minutes, or until everything is heated through and cabbage is tender and translucent.
Serve immediately. Refrigerate leftovers.
I can totally taste this now!0 -
I've never heard of this...is the recipe given what others know Haluski as? Or is this one of those dishes like cabbages rolls that there are a hundred variations of it? It sounds good.0

Haluski is a Polish/Eastern European recipe. You may have heard it called cabbage and noodles or cabbage and dumplings.0

Are the dumplings round or irregular shaped?0 -

They are irregular. They're dropped by teaspoonfuls into the water, so they're kind of haphazard looking.0 -
We just had this a couple of weeks ago and it was sooooo good!
My mom made homemade dumplings. Yum!
I'm 25% polish, and my husband is too. My grandfather was 100% polish/. My great grandma was born in Warsaw.0 -
