Gatorade and powerade- what are your takes on it? Waste of sugar and sodium? Good for hydrating? Or just drink good old fashion water?!

  • Smart Water instead if you want something better than water but not liquid garbage like Gatorade.

I prefer Nuun for sports drinks.

Personally I have found there to be some much better quality electrolyte replacement drinks out there. Smart water or pure, isotonic coconut water (such as VitaCoco) are good choices, for endurance sports though I usually opt for Vemma Thirst. This is both full of antioxidants to reduce the internal impact of the stress of exercise, and also gives you high quality electrolyte replacement.

its a waste unless you are running or exercising for a very long time. If you want to replace electrolytes (spelling) try coconut water. It's supposed to help with that.

If you do get Gatorade, you could try cutting it in half, or a quarter.

    in my opinion...go with water.
  • I say water unless your a construction worker out in 100 degree weather sweating all day or an athlete. I wouldn't drink gatorade just to quench my thirst after a work out or run. Its not worth it to me.

Gatorade is like soda to me. It taste good but has way to many calories in it.

I drink water or if I want some flavor in my drink I'll have some propel zero fitness water. It gives it a little flavor and has zero calories.

Skip the Gatorade unless your severely dehydrated by one being an extreme athlete, actively vomiting or diarrhea, or running a marathon.

Like others have said there are far better ones with fewer calories. And water is my personal preference.

It's usually meant for carb/electrolyte replacement by endurance athletes or long periods of exercise. The G2 (Low Cal version) is a pretty good alternative. *Waits for sucralose alarmists to chime in.*

I'm a Powerade Zero fanatic. But only because I gave up soda. In general most people will find it a waste of sodium, but I find it a healthier alternative to soda.

As far as hydration goes, whatever you'll drink most wins. I'm never tempted by a bottle of water, but add some flavoring and salt and I'm much more likely to drink it.

When I drink bottled water alone I might drink 2 bottles a day (4 servings of fluids), compared to 3 bottles of Powerade Zero (12 servings of fluids), it is easier for me to stay hydrated with Powerade.

But if your sensitive to sodium, or find yourself able to drink plenty of water, by all means go for it!

When I really feel like I need to replace electrolytes, which is rare, I prefer plain pedialyte. I always thought gatorade tasted like watered down gross juice and never saw the appeal, where as plain pedialyte cut in half with either water or seltzer is just fine by me. Also useful for hangovers and stomach flus :)
