I hate the holidays...I don't seem to be able to get through them without putting on extra pounds. Any good suggestions??

Last year for halloween, instead of a candy bowl on my desk at work, I bought some packets of dried fruit. I still got to get a little something for my sweet tooth without going over board.

I generally allow myself one day (or part of a day) to have treats. I look forward to it and make myself be extra good leading up to it. I get it all out of my system at once and usually feel awful by bedtime. It makes for a good reminder of why I choose a healthy lifestyle, I don't feel cheated and I don't seem to gain if I splurge for a day and then reel myself back in. Maybe up some fluid for a day or 2 after, but it goes away quickly. Pick a day and plan for it :)
  • The holiday season can force you to put ur investigative hat on and search for "healthy" alternatives to some of the typical/traditional holiday meals, drinks, sweets, treats, snacks...the internet is a very useful tool in researching and finding lots of recipes for these alternatives. becoming a super sleuth can be fun & rewarding, because you can still eat healthy but also enjoy some goodies without the extra lbs. or guilt, most importantly you are not denying urself any cravings the holidays may trigger....(another plus, you can share what you find/make with ur loved ones!)

Try switching to maintenance calories in the weeks around the holidays. It will give you a bit more wiggle room for the holiday food and you won't feel like you are blowing it all the time.
